Poll question: Windows users! What brand of internet security do you use?
Edited on Sun Sep-11-05 03:48 PM by Crazy Guggenheim
That is Firewall/AV combination.

Note: If you do not have a Firewall on your system *regardless* of the Operating System turn off your computer right now and get one!

It includes:
Personal Firewall Kaspersky Anti-Hacker 1.8

Easy to manage. Excellent product and protection, IMO.

11. Yes, I use Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition 1.06. When I run it...
It usually finds *nothing*. On rare occasions, there will be a cookie in my browser cache it doesn't like, but that's about it. If I cleaned out the cache before running Ad-aware, it wouldn't be finding anything.

13. As a computer repair professional
I can say with certainty that Norton is broken. Every virus creator out there knows exactly how to get past it, and so far Symantec has not taken steps to rebuild their program.

On the other hand, McAfee not only detects a great many virii, but it also detects trojans, spyware, and other unwelcome software. It has an on-access scanner that actually WORKS.

And their firewall is less intrusive than Norton's.

15. Mmm, Norton sucks.
Norton couldn't protect a candy bracelet inside a locked combination safe covered in chains locked in Fort Knox.

16. Norton anti virus for mac, causes so many problems
on an apple computer I have not used it.
Norton has issues in the windows world for sure.

I had AVG on my PC that was lost in the fire and liked it.

25. We gave up on Norton and are using AVG. Amazing! Our computer isn't
at death's door like we thought it was. That last Norton edition was a pain in the ass... AND they never did send the rebate which was promised when Havocdad bought the last version. :grr:

Nice to have the computer working again. It was grinding slower all the time before we drove the stake through the Norton program!

14. I use Freedom Internet Security.
Edited on Sun Sep-11-05 06:17 PM by Akoto
This service was made available to me without charge after I signed up to Adelphia's cable internet. I must say that I've been very satisfied with it so far. It has both anti-virus and anti-spyware, and I've seen it catch and eliminate both on many occasions. Freedom also has a nice firewall, which I layer over another firewall.

Freedom updates every three hours, too!

17. Zone Alarm..
.... along with a router/gateway, is all I need.

I don't use "live" virus scanning stuff, they use too much CPU/IO and they generally suck as well.

Never been damaged by a virus yet. (knocks on wood) :)

19. Zone Alarm
You can download the basic version for free. And it works fine. As of right now, since I downloaded the latest patch on Wed?

15344 Intrusions have been blocked since install (of the latest version)
2613 of those have been high-rated

Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 01:17 PM by mvd
If Kaspersky Anti-Hacker gets better, I'll use it, because I'd rather not use an American-made firewall. I'm not high-risk, but who knows what backdoors there are for our government. Can't find the link, but Symantec even said they'd allow a trojan through if the government requested.

30. Zone Alarm Security Suite is A-OK
Symantec products have always bogged down my system slowing it down. I heard about that problem, but really noticed the improvement when I switched to ZASS.

31. Zone Alarm is worth it...
instead of pinging back "acess denied," when someone pings your computer (let's say a hacker) Zone Alarm returns "no computer here". Handy.

Clarification: iptables is Linux's native firewall.
