2. Well, it's not mine
It's his. I'll see if he can write it down - he's sort of an instinctive cook. Man it is SO yummy!~

I'll try to get it out of him and get back to you. ;)

3. Okay, thank you. There was a place in Colorado Springs...
that served the best I've ever eaten. I've been striving to perfect the recipe ever since.

5. where in Colorado Springs?
Amanda's Fonda? Jose Manuels? I could get it for you, freeze it and send it. I will be there two days next week.

6. I don't know if the place would still be there...
The last time I was there was back in 1968. It was downtown on one of the main streets, but it's been so long I don't remember the name.

10. Probably Senior Manuels
they have moved on to North Nevada but still same great food. Warn flour tortillas and a bowl of Chile Verde and life is complete. We can only feel envy for Stargazer and her husband.

13. The food was delicious. I always ate there...
before a long night of drinking. It seemed to line the stomach quite well. :)

9. Charlie, you might be interested in this site:
Karen Baldwin has done a lot of work on her own Chile recipe. I have written her in the past about them.

12. Ah, looks savory
Thanks! It's got enough of the small differences (tomatoes, white pepper, chicken broth) that can make a difference from the ways I've done it, that it'll be worth a try... right after I've given skygazer's hubby's recipe a shot :)

14. I've used tomatillos in mine with good results, too...
I like the piquancy they produce.

7. Oh my gosh...
Last time we were in Denver there was a place (I think it was called the Silver Fox) that had THE BEST chili verde ever. Anything I've eaten since then is just disappointing.

11. That has been my own experience...
since eating at the place in Colorado Springs. I've come pretty close to duplicating it several times myself.

15. Best Chile Verde Ever: Lucy's Drive-In, Los Angeles
even during the LA riots, they burned down the stores on the other three corners at Pico and LaBrea, but they didn't burn Lucy's.

Lucy's made an uncredited appearance in the movie "Baby Boy" by John Singleton. I recognized the drive-up window and the food they were getting.

I haven't found any good chili verde on the East Coast yet.

16. Your memory is good. I found Lucy's on the internet(s),
"As you power down toward the Santa Monica Freeway from Hollywood, you could cruise through the Mexican-American drive-thru institution Lucy's for carnitas tacos or chile verde burritos, enchilada platters or really crisp French fries that have picked up an intriguing, toasty sweetness from being fried in the same oil as tortilla chips."

17. Lucy's would make fresh carrot juice right in front of you
They would take a bunch of carrots and run it through a juicer.
