I was thinking Minneapolis.. I don't like cold. I'm leaning towards Austin.

Anything resembling Portland? I love the weather there. But not Portland.

Good schools and public transportation is a plus.

Well outside of Denver to stay out of the traffic but the area is spectacular.

10. we really don't get much snow

we see a lot of it in the mountains and you can go play in it but we might get 20 inches a year total here in Denver. And GOPisEvil is right, stay off the freeways and it's a great city. Of course our Football team SUCKS!

5. Austin rules!

It gets hot here in the summer, but spring and our extended fall make up for it. We never really get winter. Maybe 2 or 3 days a year.

Good schools? Well, I can't stand the University of Texas' sports teams, but it is a great school. Texas State is right down the road in San Marcos. Public Transportation? Ehhhhh...Capital Metro is pretty decent but there are still lots of things you need a car for.

We have excellent music, food, a little culture, it's very laid back and casual.

Austin isn't what it used to be, but I still like it here.

Im in the rust belt and its pretty much dying away into nothingness.

Used to be vibrant and alive but now its like a depressing little shithole with a stoplight thats broken and a run down city park. Damn, now Im depreseed. :(

And once you get through one winter, the weather is really no big deal. Plus, we have skyways: elevated walkways that connect all of downtown. You can walk miles downtown without ever stepping outside, if you don't want to.

Minneapolis/St. Paul is one of the best places to live in the nation, IMHO. Good jobs, affordable living, and the property values aren't too insane yet, either. We've got a great arts scene, a killer music scene, and some of the most liberal politics in the nation.

Taxes may be the 4th-highest in the nation, but we have a very solid social safety net, even after several years of Republican misadministration. We have a very educated workforce, and unemployment rates are usually well below the national average. We also have some of the healthiest population, and 99% of our residents have medical insurance (either through employers or through a subsidized insurance program called MinnesotaCare).

And don't worry too much about the weather. True, the winters can be brutal (especiall January), but most people stay indoors for the worst parts. We may get a couple of blizzards a year, but it's rare that anybody dies. At worst, you may get a couple days off work while we dig out.

And did I mention the HUGE contingent of active MN DUers, too? We meet up about once a month at a local watering hole for fun and entertainment. And we have a blast, everytime!

14. We haven't had a real ass-kicking blizzard in quite some time..

...the kind that barrels out of Siberia, across Canada, skirts the Dakotas and lays the Hand of God upon us....say, 20 inches of snow and six or seven days of -20F temps to follow.
No, that hardly ever happens any more.

It's been a hot summer. Summer is great and the lakes are sweet...mostof them anyway...

and you can learn to love the sound of new snow crunching under your boots.
