22. Tina is a strange chick
Her stage outfits were not provocative, but her moves to the basslines as played were. She had every guy so hot under the belt line when the Talking Heads finished their final set. I remember my boyfriend in college was one of those eager pups, so to speak.

Then 10 years later, one of my housemates, a male, also saw her perform, but I think without David Bryne. Anyway, he had the same reaction, so gathering from a couple of comments her, the feeling must have been universal.

31. Totally agree. MTV destroyed them.
I remember their videos, when the camera tried to "hide" Ann's weight gain. And overnight Nancy sprouted "boobs."

In our "look-at-me-I'm-perfect" world, their talent got hijacked by rabid visual consumerism.

Too bad.

Also Exene Cervenka, Wanda Jackson, Chrissy Hynde, Pauline Murray (good call, Fen), Suzi Quatro, Fay Fife, Lorrie Collins, The Runaways (though Joan's and Lita's later careers left something to be desired), Kim Deal laid down some interesting bass lines, Tina Weymouth laid down better bass lines (than just about anybody), Moe Tucker gets honorable mention, Lorna Doom has to take some credit for her name alone, the list goes on and on....

And Yoko rules. Fuck all y'all haters.

Love her. I generally don't care for high-pitched women singers. I can't stand Tori Amos. A girl in my art class used to habitually croon TA songs during work time. She was totally in love with the sound of her own voice and I just wanted to smack her. Ruined Tori for me forever.

though everything I've heard about her indicates that she's a royal pain in the ass off stage. Also, Siouxsie Sioux (she looks like a suburban mum now, which is really jarring), Debbie Harry, Patti Smith, Joni Mitchell, Nancy Wilson from Heart, Annie Haslam of Renaissance, and doubtless some worthies I am forgetting.

65. My favorite is Joan Jett.
She played a show for free in my nowheresville town that blew me away. I hope that people will remember her place in RnR history. She was in the original 'Queens of Noise,' The Runaways. She hung with the Sex Pistols in the 70's, had a massive mainstream hit in the early 80's, and when the mainstream ignored her subsequently, she rocked clubs and small auditoriums anyway.

To me, Joan Jett is what RnR is all about.

81. Joan Jett and Deborah Harry top my list, but it doesn't stop there.
I also like Lennox and Turner as well. Plus there is Chrissie Hynde, Cyndi Lauper, Courtney Love (I'm ducking already, but I still love her music), Traci Chapman, Sarah McGlaughlan (spelling is wrong, I know), Anne Murray and Patti Smith. I could name many more, but those are the ones I think of right away.
