So, who do you think deserves an Oscar nod so far?

I just saw "Crash", and thought it was excellent! I hope the film gets a nod, along with Sandra Bullock and Matt Dillon for their supporting roles. I would also like to see Ian McDiarmid get a nod for his "Palpatine" in Revenge of the Sith, but usually Star Wars films don't get acting nods.

I probably haven't seen all of the Oscar caliber films, I imagine "Constant Gardener" might be one.

Anyway, what are your choices?

1. I don't think Sandra Bullock deserves anything

but Matt Dillon was quite good in the movie.

I don't watch too many movies, so sorry, I don't have any other picks. I doubt "The 40 Year Old Virgin" will get anything.

2. I thought she played a good bitch.

It wasn't a role very typical of her, and I was suprised. Matt Dillon was great. I loved how the characters took unexpected turns in the movie. That was a pretty well done flick!

I want to see 40 Year Old Virgin, but will wait 'til dvd.

I just don't think she was that great in it. Don Cheadle should get a nod waaaaay before her.

3. The Oscars need a Best Comedy award or something

I hate the Academy Awards anyway, but if they had a comedy category, The 40 Year-old Virgin would win hands down.

5. As soon as I saw your thread title, I thought of Ian McDiarmid

This guy brought life to three sub-par SW flicks (I, II, VI) and made a good one (III) bloody sublime.

By the time the opera scene ended, Palpatine became the #1 badass in sf/fantasy.

He was pure evil. Best evil since Hannibal Lechter.

We will see if the Academy recognized it. Roeper said he deserved it.

7. Miranda July for "Me and You and Everyone we Know."

Brilliant movie, and an amazing acheivement for a first-time director.

But, since the Academy still hasn't recognized that women can make movies, it'll probably get shut out.

I admit, I don't even think I've heard of it.

Another I will have to check on DVD!

I love to find an Indie film that not many have heard about, and it turns out to be a jem.

And not just for Thandy Newton, who I never tire of looking at. The paths of the characters were nicely woven. A pity Sandra Bollocks was in it.

Not a usual role for her, but she seemed comfortable in the role.

I thought the whole cast was excellent.
