I'm a Kathy Reichs fan. So I had high hopes for the new series based on her writing. But. I'm watching the premiere and it's all wrong. The main characters are like cartoon action heroes, not at all realistic. They're cliches. And nothing like the characters in the books. The book Temperance Brennan is in her 40s, has a college age daughter, is divorced, and doesn't do martial arts. This show has laughable special effects (sci-fi holographics...as opposed to the book's painstaking lab work) while the books are grounded in good old research There are no "fun" sidekicks, the horny girl who flashes her breasts. The "tension" between Temperance and the former Ranger, now FBI agent. It's all so straight to cable movie silly. Sigh. I was hoping for a show more like some of the gritty BBC series. This is CSI lite. CSI slight. CSI blight. With way too much psychobabble. Very disappointing. Instead of wasting your time with this bad TV, check out Reich's latest book "Cross Bones". It's about finding ancient bones at Masada which might, or might not be, those of Christ. So, there's quite a bit of the history of Masada, plus interesting research on the religious artifacts business. Also, there's perspective on past and current religious beliefs relating to Jesus' family. And quite a bit about religious fundamentalism, Jewish, Protestant, Catholic, and Muslim. The book is infinitely more complex and interesting than this inane TV show. Damn you, George W. Bush, for dumbing down America. And ruining the work of a perfectly decent mystery writer.
