I flushed one on Sunday, then the rest succumbed to the disease yesterday. I had a tank ornament in the shape of a bell where they would all go to die. How poetic- for whom the bell tolls.

I had them years ago; they're extremely easy to care for.

6. Guppies are good. My fave fish right now in my tank are my tiger barbs

Very active, I have a school of 11 of them, and they look quite cool swimming around zip zip zip.

I also love my turquoise guorami - very beautiful, and always sparkling in the light.

And my red tailed sharks - glorious!

7. I'm a bit apprehensive about getting anything else.

This was my first foray into aquarium keeping, and I picked a particularly difficult breed. I have a small tank, despite many things I have read stating that beginners should start with a large community tank. At least I didn't do anything stupid like throw a chiclid into the mix...it would have been a quick meal.

And start with an easier breed - get some black tetras. That's what my aquarium guy suggests is the best fish for getting a tank going, they're hardy, hard to kill, and get along with other fish.

You can't really do tropical in one that small.

Gotta go with freshwater.

Or you could get a betta.

I suggest you move up to a ten gallon, at least - you can get full kits for $30 or less. My last kit was $27. At least a ten gallon is big enough to have a filter and heater.

I think that's why I am going to stock the tank with guppies- they should be fine in a smaller environment such as that. When I was a teen I had four that I kept in a fishbowl and they lasted a very long time.

5. Bummers - always sad to lose a fish.

12. Get some Bush Tetras. They're quite hardy.
