Hurricane Katrina to be renamed “Hurricane Kerry”.
Sept. 14, 2005
White House Press Office
Joint statement released by U. S. State Department Undersecretary for Public Diplomacy Karen Hughes, and White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan:

“With the concurrence of President George W. Bush, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced this morning that the “official name for Hurricane Katrina has been changed to Hurricane Kerry in order to more accurately reflect where the area of major responsibility lies for this devastating event”.

Secretaries Hughes and McClellan pointed out that “had Senator John Kerry (D. MA) fought more effectively for increased funding for the Army Corps of Engineers’ New Orleans levee projects we’d probably be enjoying beignets and hot chicory laced coffee at the Cafe Du Monde on Decatur Street right now.”

“In fact, if Sen. Kerry had just gone to church , got down on his knees, and prayed hard enough, this whole thing wouldn’t have happened. We’re not playing the blame game, but it’s past time for those responsible for this worst case scenario to step up and take responsibility.”

Officials contacted at the World Meteorological Organization (who are responsible for naming hurricanes) had no comment.

23. You know what, this seems less like a joke than it used to.
Much of the last several years have been exactly this absurd.

17. Apologies if my sense of humor offends. We are helping.
Miz t. and I helped to feed evacuees at her church last week.
Unhappily only a few came, none at all on Friday, so they shut it down.
I live in Baldwin County, Alabama on the east side of Mobile Bay.

The entire county has been functioning (electric power, government, etc.) since the day after the storm, but relief efforts (Red Cross, FEMA) are still in total confusion.

I just got up this morning with the thought "What is the most ridiculous lengths this administration could go to in the blame game?"

This was the result.

In fact, I'm suprised they didn't get the national weather service to skip past "Katrina" and go right to "Kerry"

19. Fooled by a pro, if that makes you feel a little better.
Years ago I was a newspaper reporter and have written up many "government press releases" that sounded a lot like the "Hurricane Kerry" one.
