The University of Newcastle says it will reduce fees to the level
charged by their home institution to any students who transfers to
Newcastle, and are also offering to return a portion of that fee to the home
institution to help offset their loss of business.

reducing fees to the level charged by their home institution would actually be a massive hike in tuition... as most Uni's here are $20-25K per year, while in the UK it's more like $5K... unless they are ridiculously steep for foreigners (I doubt they'd be that steep though!)

1. Orleans is doing something similar...but I think theirs is free.

So that's the one I'd be picking, LOL. I don't know what the Orleans one is called...Universite de Orleans? Whatever it is.

I don't get what Newcastle is doing, but perhaps it is a secret admissions test, to understand it. :crazy:

2. The homse-student fees are set by Parliament

and are very low (they didn't exist at all until 1998); then universities are allowed to ratchet up the fees for foreigners. That's why British universities love American students, you pay massive fees, and they don't even have to bother teaching you English (well, not very much of it anyway).

3. Fees for foreign students are very high here

Probably around £20-£25,000 ($35-48,000).

British universities love foreign students though most of the foreign students have traditionally come from Asia. The universities get a load of cash for teaching them and the students are generally already well-educated and need very little extra tuition.

Besides, Newcastle is a fantastic city to spend time as a student.
