Is there an artist you didn't give two titties and a donut about until you found out they were liberal?

I felt that way about John Denver. He fuckin' rules, man.

1. I'd probaly disregard bands because they're conservatives...
But I wouldn't buy shitty music just because a band is liberal. Good Charlotte, for example, are liberals, but they remain one of my most despised bands of all time.

52. I like them. I like that they stick together. That they don't deviate
from what they essentially are -- a garage punk rock band. They have grown on me. I like that they don't fuck with the formula. If I had to have a band become big, I am glad it is them.

5. I bought the Dixie Chicks' CD.
Their music is probably really good to someone who likes that kind of music, but I don't like it. However, I figured that they were probably losing a lot of sales because they had the courage to speak up about B*, so I wanted to support them. I'm glad that I did!

I wish they'd put me in charge of hollywood - the whole movie would be her running. Fuck "plot" and "story" - let's see her running! Same with Natalie Portman.

Let's have movies that are just the hot babes bathing, showering, running, covering themselves with whipped cream and chocolate, that sort of stuff.

7. It's the same problem I have with people who buy crappy Christian Music.
My brother used to be heavily involved in Christian Youth groups and listened primarily to "Christian Music" - you know....really bad pop/rap/metal that only sells because it mentions God. I mean - that shit was atrocious, but he ate it up.

So yeah - I have to appreciate the music on an aesthetic level first.

8. Politics are irrelevant. The art stands on its own, or fails on its own.
Though I make one exception for hate music and white supremacy music and black supremacy and (insert race, demographic, culture, whatever) supremacy music.

If I don't like a person's music, I sure as hell ain't gonna start liking it just because I find out their a flaming liberal. Nor will I hate a music because I find out it's a flaming freeper.

Judging the merit of art on the politics of the artist is assinine.

12. Hmmm
Well I did look into Steve Earle after I heard the controversy surrounding the politics in his songs with Jerusalem, but it turned out to be a pretty good album.

Otherwise, an artist being liberal may make me get into their music more than I already did (I like pretty much everything), but is not the sole basis for me liking their music. And there are a handful of artist that even knowing their liberal doesn't make me like their music any more.

16. No - I don't let ideology affect me.
The world of classical music is far less politicised (thankfully), and quite frankly I've got no idea what (if any) political ideas various choirs, orchestras, soloists &c. have expressed.

I would note, finally, that recently Wagner was performed in Israel for the first time - that is a major step forward to my mind.
