the thread titles in the Lounge. I mean, there is some really serious shit going on out there.

Sometimes it's a little creepy spending time in LBN and then checking out the Lounge - where one finds the most mind-numbing inanities being blathered about at times -seriously, on some occasions I can't find a single thread in the Lounge I dare click on.

I came here after the 2004 election to distract myself from the deep depression I was suffering after being involved in the Dean campaign for a year and then watching Kerry self-destruct, then watching the holocaust of the 2004 election unfold. I'm over it now. At the time, the Lounge seemed like a very funny place.

By now I don't find much humor here. Mostly inanities.

Sorry folks, but if you can't elevate the level of conversation somewhat, can you at least try to recapture your sense of humor???

I mean, there are times when I pop in here and see thread after thread title, none of which makes any coherent sense, as if posting that kind of title has become a Lounge habit - something to be imitated and emulated.

I'm not some kind of control freak, I'm just making an observation - that I'm having more and more difficulty recognizing the Lounge I came to know and appreciate last fall-winter-spring.

I have seen some unbelievably laugh out loud, iced tea on the keyboard stuff in the lounge. The people who post here have a wicked sense of humor and it is reflected in their threads.

Lately, however, maybe people are just a little shell shocked by what happened in the gulf. I know I am. I know I am way too tired trying to help with the relief effort to be funny, and I know you will find this hard to believe, but I am hilarious IRL.

I do love the lounge and the lounge regulars, because they offer me a respite from the tragedy of the gulf which I am completely and totally immersed in right now, as well as the ongoing quagmire that is Iraq.

So, yes, maybe the lounge hasn't been as funny lately, and maybe people are posting random things to keep from screaming into the night, but the point is, we are all in this together.

What I have come to realize is that there are times when I want to be serious, and times when I want to be silly. And I can't expect anyone else to be on the same schedule. :) When the lounge is too silly, I just go back to GD, or turn off the computer.
