we had a scare with Mr. Kitty tonight...
Got home to find him lethargic, distended belly, wouldn't let us touch him, didn't want to go outside or eat. Found an emergency vet two exits down and raced down there.

Two xrays, a quantity of human blood shed and $500 later? He's constipated.

On the plus side, he's in remarkably good health for someone now labeled a "geriatric feline" at 12 and a half.

Those who are so inclined may wish the little bugger well. He's sleeping off the anesthetic under our bed upstairs.

1. Well, I'm glad it was nothing more than that.
Is there any chance of him working for that 5 bills?

13. he's spending the night at the vet's tonight.
We gave him a laxative this morning, but he still hadn't shit by the time I got home at 4:45. The problem seems to be a mild infection. We hope.

He tore the crap out of the vet and her assistant, so he hasn't lost any of his fight. :)

I miss the cat.

14. I hated it when my cat was at the emergency vet for the weekend
He always sleeps on my bed so I had trouble sleeping. I got home one Friday and he wasn't at the door on the verge of starvation as usual. He hadn't peed all day, had thrown up, was hardly moving and just yowling. Turned out his urethra was blocked and the vet said she thought he had been blocked for almost 24 hrs! I scoop his box at night so I assumed Thrusday night he was fine since there was stuff to scoop and wasn't acting funny Friday morning when I went to work. She said his BUN (some test indicating kidney function) should be in the 30's and his was over 200! There was a possibility his kidneys wouldn't return to normal function but she said that since he was otherwise healthy and only 6 he would probably be fine, and he is. He was partially blocked later the next week (bloody urine) so my regular vet kept him under observation for a few days. The whole thing cost me almost $1000 (emergency vet charges by the hour for their stay and he was there almost 48 hours, plus the 3 days at the regular vet) but I can't not do it for His Royal Fluffiness (aka Max). I also had to give him subcutaneous fluids every other day for about 3 weeks. He LOVED being held down for 15 minutes with a needle stuck in him. He has prescription food now that he loves since it's canned instead of the dry stuff he had before. Wow, that was a long kitty story!

15. lucky Mr. Kitty
to have folks who care so much, and help Mr. Kitty clear up the problem. Lucky folks who get to have more time enjoying Mr. Kitty.

16. it's odd to think
that he's considered "geriatric" now. When we got him right before we got married, he was small enough to have to be fed with an eye dropper.

Himself, not long ago.
