This is why I like Live... Peace is now
This was back in 1991... right around the time of the Gulf War... and still as valid today as it was then.

Aritst: Live
Album: Mental Jewelry
Song: 10,000 Years (Peace Is Now)
Lyrics: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/live/10000yearspeaceisnow.html

The world is burning down
Can't you smell the smoke in the air?
War, disease, and famine
This demon, she is everywhere

Poets and preachers and politicians
They've all had their say
And we got 10,000 years
Devoted to nothing
But tomorrow and yesterday

If all of the ignorance in the world
Passes a second ago
What would you say?
Who would you obey?
I am here to say that

Peace is now

Mr. President
I hereby pardon you of all your crimes
For they are just as much mine

Selfishness and separation have led me
To believe that the world is not my problem
The world is not my problem
I am the world
And you are the world

If all of the ignorance in the world
Passes a second ago
What would you say?
Who would you obey?
I am here to say that

Peace is now

2. Heh. I recently put all their albums into WMA and have it on random.
I hear a lot of songs I haven't heard in a long while.

4. They're at the top of my list of favorite groups
And might very well be #1. They played with Counting Crows several years back and my sister and her husband went with me to the concert just to see Counting Crows. They really had not paid any attention to Live at that point. But, as I predicted, they were blown away by Live's performance and are now die-hard fans.

I was lucky enough to see Live give a free concert in D.C. two years ago. They are amazing!

3. They rock!
Those lyrics are great. Also, reread the lyrics to White Discussion. They're soothing, aren't they? :-)

6. I'm terribly jealous!
Although I swear that lead singer, Ed, waved at me at one of the concert's I've attended. We were very close to the front and a bit to the side. He was watching Counting Crows play from the side and every now and then would look at the crowd. I'd jump up and down and wave frantically at him and finally got a wave back - or so I like to believe it was directed at me. :)

I'll have to look for them at home this weekend.

I used to have a friend who was a very popular DJ on the Houston modern rock station. I showed up with my friend at the concert, and he got us in the back door to meet them. We got to chat with them, just us and them for about 5 minutes. The station had given out 20 passes to a pre-show acoustic set and Q&A/photo session, and he got us in there too. We were up front, about 5 feet away from them. They were really nice, laid back, mellow guys. You could run into them in a grocery store and never know they were famous.

14. Great song, great group
They're the only band I've paid to see more than twice... several times, and they were always excellent!

15. I agree. They played in my hometown of Bellingham, WA before they
were famous (tiny little town) and they did a great show back then. They never had a low point in their career.
