Discontinuing the ipod mini was a dumb decision

For the last week I've seen people talk about how cool the new ipod Nano is, probably based on aesthetics (I went to a nearby Apple store and tried it, it's really as small as they claim. It was only slightly larger than my thumb!) However, it plays LESS music than the ipod Mini because it has fewer gigabytes, and IMHO is too small for durability in terms of carrying it around with you. My suggestion would be to bring back the mini and discontinue the Shuffle, but only because that one can only play 500 Megabytes of songs, which was about what most mp3 players played before the ipod....the reason why most people burned their mp3s onto cd-rw's until the ipod broke out

1. Actually, the iPod Nano, is one tough mofo

because it's all solid state. A website took one and dropped it from 30 feet onto a parking lot and it kept playing, they dropped it out of a car at 5, 15, 50 miles per hours and it kept playing - with some cosmetic damage. Then they drove over it with a car. The lcd shattered, but it kept playing.

2. If the lcd shatters then what is the point of using it

You can't tell what song you're even playing without the menu.

Anyway, my idea for rearranging the ipod lineup is mostly because I think the Shuffle was a mistake. The Nano should fill the Shuffle's niche instead with 2-5 gig, and the Mini should have been upgraded to color/photo with 10 gig.

I want one. Besides, while I do have 9 gigs of music, and I do acknowledge that's tiny compared to a lot of peoples' collections, I can easily state that I'd have trouble finding why 2 gigs of music for short trips wouldn't be enough. Sure, it's not my entire collection, but I could easily make different playlists depending on moods.

Besides, I'll bet there will be a 5 gig version before xmas.
