Poll question: Greatest Movie Character Ever (Semifinals, round 1/10)
This is Premiere Magazine's list for the most part; I've made a few revisions. Let's decide amongst ourselves who the greatest film character is.

This is round 1 of 10 of the semifinals. The winner will be the highest vote-getter after 24 hours or so; that character will move on to the final round. The contestants this round are:

ROGER "VERBAL" KINT
Kevin Spacey, "The Usual Suspects"

"The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist."

JOHN MALKOVICH
Himself, "Being John Malkovich"

"Malkovich!"

SAM SPADE
Humphrey Bogart, "The Maltese Falcon"

"I don't mind a reasonable amount of trouble."

JUDY BENJAMIN
Goldie Hawn, "Private Benjamin"

"See, I did join the army, but I joined a *different* army. I joined the one with the condos and the private rooms."

GEORGE BAILEY
James Stewart, "It's A Wonderful Life"

"Merry Christmas, you wonderful old Building and Loan!"

THE MAN WITH NO NAME/"BLONDIE"
Clint Eastwood, "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly"

"In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig."

THE TERMINATOR
Arnold Schwarzenegger, "The Terminator"

"I'll be back."

KING KONG
Himself, "King Kong"

"Aaarrrggghhh!"

VIRGIL TIBBS
Sidney Poitier, "In The Heat Of The Night"

"They call me MISTER Tibbs!"

GOLLUM
Andy Serkis, "The Lord of the Rings"

"My precious!"

2. Me thinks
Gollum is just "Precious" ;) Andy Serkis did a great job with his voice. Gollum evil yes but funny too.

8. What does 1/10 mean?
Were there nine other polls that I missed?

5. Clint Eastwood once revealed TMWNN's name (SPOILER!)
Turns out his first name is Joe.

Somehow, it just never made it into the print anywhere in the trilogy. Supposedly, this wasn't by any conscious effort - but the American media seized on the character's lack of identity, and thus TMWNN was born.

6. Virgil Tibbs for me
Blondie is a close second.

But In the Heat of the Night is just a great movie and what was great, to me at least, was that Virgil was so smart and so right, but he also almost made a mistake by letting his distaste for the town's wealthy racist make him try to get the wrong man.

A very balanced character and a magnificent foil to Rod Steiger's Chief Gillepsie.
