Poll question: Your favorite aspects of Renaissance Fairs?
Made our trip to the Renaissance Fair today. A good time was had by all. What do you like best about the fairs?

I like to stand there and eye all the swords. I held a very heavy Claymoor today. Way too heavy for me. The kid got a cool wooden sword.
The blue knight defeated the red and there was great rejoicing! :)

8. The overall atmosphere
You're allowed to be part of a fantasy for a little while, where you can play act as much or as little as you want. If you have kids, you can teach them about the days before gunpowder and worse forms of death, and show them how people lived in that time before; you can get as dressed up as you want to and no one is going to laugh at you for looking different.

They told a tale of how they were both astonished at the size of my, er, um....the beast beneath my codpiece, as it were.

My brother-in-law had to pay them to do it, but it was fun anyway.

52. So you went to the Renaissance Faire?
You're going to love this one then; Michael's latest obsession is making chainmail. I took him to his first Renaissance faire about a month ago and he decided he needed to learn how to make chainmail and leather armour. So now our house is full of metal rings and leathermaking tools.

I'm sure he'll be taking orders soon, so let me know if you want that Xena outfit I know you were lusting after. ;-)

There have been other obsessions prior to this one. ;-)

He does seem to be getting the hang of making chainmail pretty quickly. I think I prefer the idea of metal rings laying around the house than a bunch of untreated leather. :-)

69. Ren Faires
I love going to the MD Ren Faire. For dressing up and living sort of like in the past, we go to Pennsic each year (ask me about the new Henry the VIII pavilion we just bought LOL). By the end of the 2 weeks there even a real basic shower and toilet look like the height of sophistication. But for fun we go to the Ren Faire, sometimes in garb and sometimes not, and people watch and eat and just have fun. Mead, yum.
