I have a question. I just found a bottle of Hennessey,
in the back of my hutch. Probably about 5-6 years old, with foil over the top and neck. Is it still good, or should I dump it?

2. it's still fine....
It'll last for decades, at least, as long as it's closed and kept out of direct sun. Enjoy!

3. It has never been in the sun, but it was cracked open 5 years ago
and has had a piece of foil over opening for 5 years. I think it's a dump.

4. Hold it up to the light,
and look for little floaties or other odd things. If you see stuff, I would'nt drink it.
If it looks clear as the day you bought it, it might be fine.

5. Probably fine.
As long as it's not cloudy & doesn't have any ugly crusy spots, I'd say it's all right. I'd drink it (and I tended bar for years.)

The high alcohol content is almost a preservative in itself.

7. I just held it up to the light. Nothing floating,
very clear. In the light it looks like liquid ruby.

It's cognac, it'll last a long time, even in an open bottle.

It's at least worth finding out--it takes a lot for something like that to go wrong.

9. It's still good
Distilled alcohol can take a lot of abuse and survive, unlike it's wussy sibling wines that can oxidize and lose flavor, or even turn. However, the subtle flavors of your Hennessy may have been lost, in which case it can still be used in cocktails. May I suggest a Continental?

Continental

1 1/2 oz Hennessy cognac
1 1/2 oz Grand Marnier orange liqueur
1 oz cranberry juice
1 oz pineapple juice

Pour all ingredients over ice in a
highball glass, stir and serve.

And think about a commercial driver somewhere out there who'd love to join ya but can't(Federal regs, ya know).
