3. Its a long and sordid mess.....
...the ownership wasn't O.K'd by the NFL until training camp was right upon us. It became almost too late to fire Tice, because it would be to late to start a new system with the first preseason games starting within a couple of months of approval of the sale.

The whole thing is a mess, and Zigy inherited this pile of internal hell. Given the state of this team, Zigy needs to bite the bullet, and fire this hang-on from the Dennis Green and Red McCombs era, and prepare for next season. The situation is really fucked up, and everyone will blame the players, but there are REAL problems with this franchise, and the players are the least of the problems....

4. How close was Collier to buying the team?
Talk about shady guys; I knew he left a trail of bounced checks in his path wherever he went..

I've alwayd liked the Vikings; after the Browns, they were my favorite team as a kid. My man Fran Tarkington and Chuck Foreman; those were the days..

I remember the "Les Steckel Year™"
Even saw the Vikings play a game that year.
They lost, obviously.

9. Tice should not only be fired,...
He should be wrapped in rug and tossed off the Washington Ave Bridge, too. The man doesn't know fsckall about motivating a team, and has absolutely no business talking to the press, either.

For Chrissakes, Mike, you KNOW kids watch the sports on the news-- there's no reason you have to use the effenheimer when you do interviews. It just makes you look like a moran.

Oh, wait...

11. I WAS a big Tice guy for the first couple of years
but the start of this season is completely unacceptable. Something is very wrong. Culpepper, who looked like a football god last year, now looks like a deer in the headlights. Whatz up with THAT? The problem is that if you can him now, there's no way to hire a new coach and install a new system during the season. That tells fans that you are writing off the season and I don't think Zygi wants to do that after two games. But heads will roll come the off-season.

And what are some names to be considered for a new head coach? It ain't gonna be a Jimmy Johnson or some such big name from the past. Anyone know the names of the hot younger coordinators in the NFL and some background info?

24. Jim Fassel is available and reportedly a friend of Zygi's
As for young, talented offensive minds, I still think Charlie Wiess can be wooed from ND with a new stadium and a fat contract.

25. Don't know about Charlie Weis
If a coach starts successfully at ND he tends to stick around.
But Fassel = good! He's the kind of coach who could beat the bushes and scare up some hotshot young coordinators and assistants anxious to raise their visibility. Fassel's high profile without being a tired retread.

27. I thought the same thing when I heard Jim Fassel's name.
I also wondered if the Vikes would consider getting Scott Linehan back as head coach. He knows the system and he would certainly love a Head Coaching position over the O-coordinator position. Plus, he'll eventually make it anyway, it wouldn't be that bad of an idea. You would have to lay out the cash for him though.

Then he can most certainly help out our current woes!!! We've got three times the talent that Miami currently has.

If the Zygster can pull this one off, getting a top quality coach should be a piece of cake.

Personally I would rather see the Twins get a new stadium first, but hey, if the Zygmeister can pull this off, more power to him.

13. You know the issues that push my buttons K-Witch....
Edited on Mon Sep-19-05 03:45 PM by WeRQ4U
They need to start all over again and I don't care if it means mailing in the season right now. I want a new offensive scheme. We no longer have the talent to push other teams into cover two and the field will never stretch like it did before. It's time to use Jimmy K. as a battering ram, throw short passes and WALK down the field. The era of FLYING down it is through.

I think we have the athletes to do it, but the coaching is abysmal. How much for Charlie Weiss?

Actually, I think Jim Fassel available and he's Ziggy's buddy. Would be better than what we have now. Just a thought.

And don't forget that we need a REAL running back. Not a three headed monster. If we mail it in this year, maybe we can get REGGIE BUSH next year. Sounds like a plan to me.

16. Vikings need to be a run first team
without Moss, we need to open up the passing options via the run. Why doesn't Daunte run the ball more...like he did the first couple of seasons...Our offense was nearly unstoppable when he did that.

Jim Fassel would ROCK...I would love to see that.

I believe Charlie Weiss is pretty happy where he is (doing well also).

That alone would keep the safety honest. If you have to have someone watching Daunte all the time, someone else will be open.

20. If we WERE to get him, you could chalk that one up to Randy too.
LOL.

If that happened, the ramifications of trading Randy would be as follows:

1. Fred Smoot, Pat Williams, Darren Sharper, and Sam Cowert on D
2. Troy Williamson, Travis Taylor and Koren Robinson at WR
3. Reggie Bush at RB
4. Jim Fassel or Charlie Weiss as the new head coach
5. ANY new offensive coordinator with a brand new scheme.

It would take at least a year to accomplish anything, but that looks like a good trade to me. Hell, it took the Cowboys at least 3 years to realize the dividends from the Herschel Walker trade. But then they won 3 Super Bowls. Just a little optimism.
