Mr. President,
I am disappointed but not surprised at your attempt at political cover in taking "responsibility" for the lack of federal response to the worst hurricane damage in history. Too bad this move came only after your poll numbers plummeted even further.
You played golf and ate cake as possibly thousands of Americans died and millions became displaced, trapped and desperate for aid. They starved and dying of thirst and took food. Your media said that white people found food, black people looted. Your Administrations' response? Orders to shoot to kill starving VICTIMS?
Your "Let them eat cake" mother said it all. And your actions and lack of action show you do not care.
It does not matter how many trips you take to the devastated area or how much money Karl Rove tells you to spend there. You can give every survivor ten million dollars, you can build each a mansion and you can rebuild new Orleans into a bright shining city. It doesn't matter what you do now.
Unless you can raise the dead that you are truly responsible for, those we hold you responsible for, you will have still failed miserably at what you claim to excel at: Protecting America.
Shame on you for not responding as a real President should have. Shame on you for not advocating an independent investigation into the failures. Shame on you for appointing a FEMA director who blamed the victims. Shame on you for gutting FEMA, a once great agency. Shame on you for cutting funding for levee upgrades in New Orleans and shifting it to your failed war on terror.
You can take responsibility or not. It does not matter Mr. President because we the American people hold you responsible for the dead whether you "take responsibility" or not.
Americans can only pray that 2006 will return control of the legislature to Democrats who can initiate impeachment proceedings.
