Let's see, a 12-pack of Heineken, chips and salsa, bullets for my gun
Case of water, fully recharged batteries for my camera and cell phone, flashlights, full tank of gas in my car.

I'm ready for Rita. Bring it on.

1. Hoping the storm isn't too bad when it gets to you.
Sounds like you have what you need...only I'd make it a case of Heinies.

2. It's not going to be bad
It might be a category one hurricane hitting the keys, but hurricanes have a tendency to veer at the final moment.

Katrina was only a category one when she swept through Miami, but she created plenty of damage, leaving 80 percent of the county without power and eleven people dead.

And I was lucky to get the 12-pack because it was the last one left in CVS Pharmacy. The Winn Dixie next door had lines going back to the end of the store. I would have drank six beers by the time I reached the check out line.

4. I just remembered!
You didn't mention duct tape. Homeland security says you have to a supply or you're not a 'Merkin.

Yep, having to drink several in the checkout line would have been a waste.

7. I have shutters
Any native Floridian can tell you that not only does tape NOT protect windows from hurricane winds, but it leaves permanent marks on windows.

But I do remember that suggestion from the Homeland Security Department. After Katrina, now we know why they came up with such a dumb suggestion. They were clueless.

12. I thought the tape was so broken glass wouldn't go flying as easy
Less to step on if it's all in a huge wad on the floor.

16. What happens is that instead of one shard of glass flying for your jugular
You end up with several connected pieces of flying glass headed for your jugular.

Seriously, duct tape can't withstand strong hurricane winds.

I recommend stocking up on alkaline batteries, though... rechargeable have shit for life and if the power goes out, you can't recharge. Seriously, PM me and I can get you killer deal on bulk in Miami.

Hang in there and STAY SAFE!

11. I have rechargable batteries for my camera and cell phone
I have regular batteries for flash lights (rechargable doesn't do good when the power goes out), but I go to Costco and stock up on regular batteries.

17. I bought a new rechargeable flashlight today...
...it can be charged with electricity, solar power, or a hand crank. It also has an AM/FM radio. I'm ready for anything!

19. Does your neighborhood still have piles of trees and branches from Katrina
There are still a few piles around here, which might create havoc.

22. Miami-Dade collects my trash...
...I tossed three giant limbs from a seagrape tree into my swale area and it was picked up a week after Katrina. I put some more out last week and they picked that up too. Miami Lakes is pretty much cleaned up.

9. I've been saying that to freepers since Nov. 2004
And I will probably say it to any counter-protesters in DC. It's my way of making them eat their words.

13. I hope not either
Even though it's not a strong storm right now, it can still do enough damage to inconvenience me.

If enough flights are delayed or cancelled during the next two days, that will create a domino effect for the flights the rest of the week.
