LAS VEGAS -- What's better than winning a multi-million dollar jackpot? For one Las Vegas man, winning it twice.
Elmer Sherwin hit the Megabucks jackpot in 1989 and did it again recently.
Sherwin won more than $21.1 million this time, at the Cannery Hotel and Casino. In 1989, he won more than $4.6 million at a Megabucks machine at The Mirage.
Sherwin is the first person in the 19-year history of the progressive slot machine system to strike it rich twice.
Sherwin is 92 and said he's "always been lucky." He's a good saver, too -- he recently bought a new car from his 1989 winnings.
As for his latest windfall, Sherwin said he plans to share it with his son and daughter-in-law and make a second donation to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts but doesn't know what else he wants.
Since his first win, Sherwin has continued to play Megabucks once or twice a week hoping to becoming the game's first repeat winner. That now accomplished, Sherwin plans to limit his future play to video poker.
