I just got a new vacuum. Disgusting!!!

We just replaced our $50 Target special that we got like 6 years ago with a new 'Vax' (Dirt Devil/Royal's high end unit) and I was damn suprised...

I've got a picture of what came out of our carpet, but I forgot to put it online before I went to work. Basically, we live in a 1 bedroom apartment (been there for a year) and the damn thing pulled up half of the container full of dirt/lint/cat hair/misc crap off of about 400 square feet of floor that I vacuumed.

All I can say is... wow.

2. Don't forget to change the filter

I inherited my Aunt's Dyson when she moved to the States. I used to diss it because it had no power at all. Then my mum asked, "have you changed the filter?" "The wha?" I responded. So I did so and wow! It sucked so hard I could barely move it!

The moral of the story: change the filter on your Dyson every few months. :)

On our model (the yellow one) you wash the filter.

I looooove my Dyson. It makes vacuuming fascinating.

Very good vacuum, but I'm not sure if it beats a Dyson or not. Looks cooler though.

3. I've got an old Kirby Heritage II in storage

It's damned heavy because it's made with a lot of metal instead of plastic, but it'll suck the ugly right out of a FReeper's soul. Very nice vacuum if you can find one cheap and if you've got the strength to lug it around.

We use an Oreck XL at home. Much lighter, and pretty darn good.

6. I know what you mean. It's astonishing.

I bought a Hoover bagless number (you empty out the little cannister thingy) and an entire cat's worth of hair got sucked up in about a minute.

However, after a while, I got a blockage (in my vacuum, not myself). The guy at the repair shop basically told me I was fooling myself to use a bagless vac if I had three cats and a bunny (all indoors) and a good-sized house. The pet hair just overwhelms the filters on those.

So I'm back to a bag vac, and it's a good cleaner, but much less satisfying 'cuz you can't see-and-dump your efforts.

If it breaks or clogs or needs repair I take it in and walk out with a new one :-)
