I just bought a new cell phone...

A Motorola v276 from Verizon.


I love it so far, but I just found out this morning that it has one of the highest SAR ratings of any mobile phone sold in the US, so now I'm a little worried.

I've already turned in the rebate paperwork so I can't return it. According to the reputable research I've found, no one really knows whether or not mobiles are harmful. In fact, scientists don't even know if the SAR rating system is accurate or helpful, so the standard itself is up in the air.

I don't use a mobile that much at all, so this is probably not something to worry about. But I do carry it around in my pocket, close to my crotch.

Opinions? Facts? Luddites? Chicken Littles?

1. What's a SAR rating?

I just got a new Nokia 6010. Simple, but I do loves me the Finnish phones.

2. Specific Absorption Rate...

It's the Specific Absorption Rate - of radiation, apparently. In Europe, anything below a 2.0 is considered safe. Here in the US and Australia, they consider anything below a 1.6 safe. My Motorola is 1.55...

EDIT: The Nokia 6010 has a SAR rating of 1.19 - better than my phone, but still high.
