Honestly, I believe it's a bit of a stretch to compare the word "homo" to the N-word.

As far as I know, gay people in this country have never been lynched, had crosses burned in their yards, their genitals mutilated, sold as commodities, etc. (yes, I'm aware of the Matthew Shepard incident, but violence against gays has never been as widespread as it has against blacks).

To me, homo is just a shortened version of homosexual so I didn't see it as a slur. But if it is, it is, and I'm not going to sit hear and argue about it. I'm not homophobic and I believe in all gay rights, including marriage and all the rest.

There's just any number of reasons why somebody who fits the description in your post should never be allowed anything approaching a position of authority at DU.

Among them would be the mocking, derisive, disrepectful, self-righteous, high-handed, narrow-minded, bigoted, intolerant, smug, holier-than-thou attitude that certain people (who fit the description outlined in the Original Post) display toward DUers whose beliefs who do not coincide with their own.

Please note that I'm not accusing YOU of any of these actions!!

By your own admission above, you are not necessarily putting yourself forth as a Moderator candidate. Therefore, I cannot be calling you out in a post. It's just a "woo-woo" notion that such a person as you describe could be counted on to moderate fairly.
