1. Absolutely!
Those guys were retro before anyone ever thought of being retro.
The Rolling Stones of the past 30 years would be hard pressed to write a song as good as "Slow Death"
And I'm a confirmed power pop hater, but "Shake Some Action" is one of the finest songs ever recorded.

2. People call them "Power Pop"- but they sound like Rock & Roll to me.
To me, Power Pop would be more like Big Star or The Naz- The Groovies have more of a "Sun" or blues thing mixed in...

But I see how they get the label- some tunes have a counter culture Paul Revere & the Raiders sound with Stonesy hooks mixed in...

I like Power Pop, incidentaly...

3. Absolutely
Cyril and Roy are another ying/yang of songwriters, but both were brilliant. And "Shake Some Action" is one of the greatest songs of the last 40 years..

4. I guess I'll have to buy that song from I-tunes...
All I have is the "Teenage Head" CD...

Their stuff is nearly impossible to get on vinyl w/o paying a bunch...

5. I'm a huge Power Pop fan, but...
Aside from "Shake Some Action," I liked them better when they were like a cruder, heavier version of the Stones (cf. their cover of Randy Newman's "Have You Seen My Baby")

8. YEah....and fortunately, the studio production style of the early
seventies was perfect for the Flamin' Groovies' sound back then.

When they switched to power pop, the production suffered; if they'd been recording it during the 60's, the move would have made sense. Today, those mid-late 70's records don't hold up so well, IMO, because it sounds like the studio sheen then prevalent choked the life out of the material.

9. "Shake Some Action" is great.
If I recall, it was produced by Dave Edmunds.
