8. It's caused by

a digital remnant of when the old analog tapes we used to live off of would bleed through.

Now that everything has been transferred to digital, there are these weird digital spandrels of bleed-through "deja vu" remaining, and the experience of "deja vu" is made more jarring by the spaces between "points" of existence created by the analog-to-digital transfer.

This also accounts for why your drunken blackouts are more extreme in this iteration of your life.

Next transfer should solve most of it, with interpolations minding the gaps, and with bleed-throughs shaved off by spectral compression.
