3. Their career is dead
it's either this, or State Fairs w/ Corey Hart as their frontman; I fell sorry for them, but not much..

We were rooting for Marty. He's obviously the better musician, IMHO. Then again, his career will soar after this...

8. I personally liked Suzie the best as a singer....but none of them had the
signature "phrasing" sound of INXS more than JD.

That is why he won. It's never about who is the best singer or best musician when it's a Band decision, expecially a band that has already established a signature sound.

It's about who captures the sound that sets them apart. That was JD.

23. You understand
it had to be JD from the beginning. It was hard taking your eyes off of this guy. I happen to think he is very talented. He is perfect for a band like INXS...who I happen to also think is very talented. The JD haters out there are baffling to me.

Marty???? He's a screamer and he is hard on my eyes.

MiG???? He has a elfin quality to me that I could never take seriously.

Any of the girls???? A girl fronting INXS? Yeah, right.

24. I thought so, too...right from the beginning I knew he had the sound....
what surprised me was that he was the ONLY one had the sound. Apparently, Hutchence's phrasing escaped the others.

So, I'm infering from the other posts, that they picked JD?
Oh. My. God.

You guys were right. You totally saw it coming. :eyes:

9. Talk about lame, that "new" INXS song, lame.
Edited on Wed Sep-21-05 07:46 AM by tjdee
SPOILER ABOUT WHO WON...I was really happy about JD winning, because he deserved it, and then they played the "new" INXS song, which sounded like a recycling of whichever Michael Hutchence song you'd like. BORING... JD's own song was way better than that.

Marty wasn't right for them...and when they showed closeups of him, when he was looking at the camera, it was disturbing. It wasn't like 'Aww, he's singing Wish You were Here', it was like 'I'm Coming to Kill You, Depending on How My Day Goes.'

I'm sure he and his band will be plenty popular now, to my eternal chagrin. I'm kind of puzzled as to why he's so popular.

11. First of all it's near impossible to recreate the initial vibe from a band
First impression, in everything, are lasting. They can't revive that *magic* that created that first album nor any of the music that immediately followed.

Yes that song did sound a lot like INXS back in the day. I noticed several (ahem) older women on the front row so there could be people my age still that into INXS.

Your observations of Marty are funny....I thought the same thing. My wife said something about how well he sang Nirvana songs, I made to comments on that:
1. You don't SING Nirvana songs you scream them
2. Singing Nirvana well should have sent up red flags to the band....INXS. Haven't they been through this before?

JD has criminal eyes-I am surprised nothing from his past has come up.

Finally-to answer your question on the other thread re:Brooke Burke....you ARE kidding right?

22. Brooke burke is evil...
SHE has crazy eyes, imo. LOL!

Why do I dislike her--too long to post here about. But I'll say this...she's a LIAR.

How dare she endorse a fitness program. I'm not saying she doesn't work out--she probably does. What I AM saying is, she recently split from her PLASTIC SURGEON husband... Hello?! How was she REALLY getting back together after childbirth? :eyes:

:grr:

12. my drum teacher said the house band was good
better than the real band.

And while we're at it, why would anyone want to replace the singer at all, given his fate? ( sort of like the drummer in Spinal Tap, eh?)

15. I dug out "Shaboo Shabah" or however you spell it
Wow. That was a fantastic album.

One Thing -- Black & White -- Don't Change, etc.

Those are kick-ass, well-crafted pop songs.

It came out in '82. I didn't realize it was so long ago.

Ah, my youth ...

17. What is so great about being a singer for a longtime has-been band?
I liked INXS way back, but their careers had already sagged before Hutchence killed himself, right? That's how I remember it.

And who were the songwriters in the band?

This show seems as much a ploy to revive the comatose career of INXS as much as anything else.

19. of course you are correct in yr observations
i am glad the less talented man won for the reasons you mention

jd is not "no" talent, he is a fine performer, he just isn't an original talent, but he is perfect as the frontman for a nostalgia act

i would have hated to see a fresh charismatic talent like marty fronting this aging band

i would like to see marty perform w. his own band & i suspect we will see this v. soon

i was a little surprised they didn't choose mig, the australian theatre dude, who would also be gifted at re-creating hutchence but i'm sure mig's career in theater will go far, he is clearly a versatile & gifted talent

It's all about Marty for me.

JD belongs with a band like INXS that no one cares about anymore.
