actually, it's not a computer question, but an automobile one.

i drive a light pick-up truck. i've heard that driving with the tailgate down makes the truck more aerodynamic, thus better fuel economy. was curious to find out if this was true, since i'll be driving to DC for the protests this week-end and every little bit would help.

1. According to the guys from Cartalk, it's a myth

and also could present problems if your truck is hit by another car as with the gate down it loses rigidity and will take much more bed damage than if the gate is up.

2. I doubt it would hurt.

Properly inflate your tires first. That would help much more.

edit: or leaving the damn thing down could get you killed.

3. i keep my tires overinflated. 40 lbs

better gas milage, better treadwear. wasnt sure about the tailgate thing.
