What part(s) of India were you in? My wife is Bengali and we were married in Bangalore and have travelled extensively throughout India.

We were in Kolkata two years ago. Crazy place, but great culture and food (love the mishti doi!). My wife went to St. Xavier's College, so we hung out in that area for the most part.
