I got great responses, including one from one very wise DU'er who told me to use vinegar and water.

I was shocked... the smell came out COMPLETELY!

I was REALLY shocked.. I didn''t think it would work, but it did.

Take the half/half solution and mix it up... use a sponge or cloth and lightly scrub.

You;ll be shocked... trust me.

The vinegar/water mixture can leave a stain... just from the acid in the vinegar...you can get that out with a small amount of baking soda mixed with warm water.

Pour a glass of 1/2 white vinegar and 1/2 water on the stain...and then pat dry...and then pour a glass of warm water and baking soda on it?

19. Let the vinegar soak in for a bit... then pat dry...

then as it starts to dry, blot it with a mixture of about a tablespoon of baking soda and warm water around the edges to counteract the vinegar and let it dry... should be good as new.

It's specifically for cat pee. I can't remember the name (and there are several brands). I seem to recall that it was under $10.

you don't need fancy deodorants, you need to counteract the ammonia in the urine... that's what the pH in the vinegar does.

vinegar). Cat pee is pretty damned impervious to anything short of a nuclear bomb.

29. A little can smell a real long way too.

Baking powder in the litter seems to only alleviate the odour for about an hour. At least Fritzi uses the litter. A friend of ours had a cat who liked to pee on his books!! (He's a bookdealer). Had to keep most of his books in a locked room.

Clorox 2 is the only thing that will make the smell go away forever- as in indetectable to the cat.

Our lovely critters have a way of smelling it for years once they've done it and then going in the same spot repeatedly. If you don't want it to happen again, you have to get rid of the smell COMPLETELY.
