Dutch Talk-Show Host to Take Heroin on Air
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - A television presenter on a new Dutch talk show plans to take heroin and other illegal drugs on air in a program intended to reach young audiences on topics that touch their lives, producers said Wednesday.

The show, scheduled to premier on late-night television Oct. 10, is called "Spuiten & Slikken," or the "Shoot Up and Swallow" show.

Even in the liberal Netherlands, where marijuana is sold and used openly, the proposed action by presenter Filemon Wesselink is illegal, and the idea was met with dismay by the governing center-right Christian Democrat party.

"This is dangerous and it sets a bad example," party spokesman Pieter Heerma said. "We're going to ask the justice minister for his view on what the law says about this, and his view on the dangers and risks involved."

1. Isn't that a bit like playing Russian Roulette on the air?

Very bad idea. I'm not sure if it should be illegal 'tho.

3. I don't think so
it's not an appropriate analogy. With russian roulette, if you get the bullet, it will kill you. While heroin users are likely to overdose, there is nothing about heroin itself, if used in moderation, that will kill you in and of itself (I am not advocating heroin use, it can deteriorate your life and your body and cause long-term health problems, just like any other addiction). It's like saying that incest in and of itself causes genetic problems--it doesn't, but it can increase the likelyhood given other factors.

It's not like this dude is going to expire on TV. And it sounds like it's an educational program. Given that the Netherlands are handling drugs in society much better than the US racist and counterproductive "war on drugs" I am not even sure I'd say this is a bad idea.

4. If they show the parts
Where you puke and shit at the same time it'll work out fine. Illegal drugs seem to feed the monster. Honest education helps I think. Not the "drugs are harmless side" or the "drugs are the ultimate evil side" But straight up -this what it is, what it feels like. This is what is does. Drugs are chemicals, cause chemical reactions in the body. They do what they do.

6. I know a pretzeldent who seems to drink on air
That's the only way we can account for his bizarro, erratic behavior.

7. In a truly free society people will always do things you don't like them to
do......

As long as its not hurting you, you can't force them to stop.
You can talk to them, but you cannot stop them physically.

The Netherlands is way closer to being a free society than America is.
