2. thanks, David.
He has struggled with depression for years now, and when Northwest laid him off after 9/11 for 2 years, he was a mess. :(

5. Sorry about your brother
Also sorry for the passengers who will have to fly under the care of anxious and pissed-off flight attendants. :-(

6. Total generalization here, but it's often the long-time vets who have the
attitude. And they're fine - they are only laying off the lowest-seniority staff.

Once NWA starts demanding the 40% pay cuts from the people who aren't laid off - that's when you're going to see some pissed off flight attendants.

9. That really bites, progmom.
I don't know what his situation is, maybe he's one of the few people who absolutely loves his job, but sometimes an unemployment stretch can be a great time for renewal. I hope everything works out for progbro.

15. NWA is planning to outsource
All of its international flights to FAs from the country to which they are flying. That's about half of all their flights, from what my friend (another NWA FA) told me.

but that entails going through O'Hare and I wasted three hours of my life there yesterday.

20. I don't wish that on anyone!
I lost the best job I ever had because our company went out of business due to 9/11 (the company was profitable and had existed for 20 years). It was a nightmare not knowing what means of support I had beyond the safety net - which was not actually enough.

Have your brother start looking for new employment NOW, just to have a head start on the others being laid off.

I am sorry for this news, and best wishes to him.

23. My sister is a flight attendant with NWA
and has been since 1973. I don't think she'll be cut but she might get so pissed at them she'll finally retire. She said she likes her job though so we shall see.
