Not sure if this goes here, but bear with me...
I need to vent.

I'm a Christian. If you are not, that's fine with me. I'm not going to try to convert you, because I think religion is a personal decision.

That said, I've had it up to here (making a motion toward his throat with his hand) with the way the right has hijacked Christianity and is ignoring many of the basic principles in the Bible as they continue to support the Bush Regime.

Now I understand these wackos don't speak for all of us, but it is troubling that oodles and oodles of "mainstream" Christians continue to blindly support the President, rather than hold him to the standards that Jesus taught us and that we hold so sacred to our beliefs.

This probably didn't come out right, but I think some of my fellow Christian Dems get the gist. Thanks for letting me ramble...

2. We have subgroups specifically for that kind of discussion
The more controvercial one is Religion and Theology (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=214). That one is where theists and atheists get together to work out differences as well as discuss other aspects of belief.

We also has subgroups for specific beliefs. We atheists have our own group as do the various denominations of Christians. Take a look around in the subgroup forums and see if something fits for you.

As to your plight. Fight to take it back.

3. I completely agree with you! I am also
a Christian. What bothers me is how they focus on certain parts of the Bible that meet their criteria (for whatever) yet totally forget about other parts of the Bible that don't really fit their agenda!

5. Exactly!
I'm in the same boat. I've even stopped attending Sunday services because...well...I guess ashamed isn't the right word but....okay, I'm not ashamed to be a Christian, or of my beliefs. I AM ashamed of all the fundies who have turned religion into a joke and a lie. If I was any better at communicating my thoughts in words, I'd continue but alas, I suck at expressive writing!

4. One of the problems nonChristians have
Is that not enough Christians stand up and speak against the religious right and their propoganda. It becomes difficult to tell if there are any differences if no one stands up to them. So unfortunately many will lump any that call themself Christian in with that other rabble.

8. I second your post entirely
Thankfully, over here in England there are relatively few whose school of 'Christianity' consists of blind-obedience to ultra-right-wingery.
