Who wants a Vicodin?
I came home early from work today because I've got a bad knee that's really bothering me. The darn vicodin is barely touching the pain but at least it makes my head feel better. :silly:

1. I've been taking vicodin because of my knee too
Actually it's from the knee surgery I had in May.

Mostly I take ibruprofin during the day, but a couple times a week I take a vicodin before bed - I wake up feeling great.

Thinking about trying tylenol PM when I run out.

2. What kind of knee surgery did you have?
I have no idea what's going on with mine - I'm seeing a new doctor on Tuesday. It's been getting steadily worse for the last year and nothing seems to help. I've tried physical therapy, ice, heat, anti-inflammatories, you name it. I hope that, whatever it is, I don't need surgery, but I'm starting to really wonder. I can barely walk today. :(

3. Have you had an MRI?
For about six months everytime I climbed stairs I had a sharp pain behind my knee cap and my knee would buckle a little.

Finally went to DR, had an MRI and it showed I had a tear in my meniscus cartiledge.

So I went in for arthroscopy and they removed the torn part of the meniscus, some arthritis behind the knee cap (also know as condromalesia, but they don't usually operate for that - but since they were in I guess) and they also said I had a partial tear in my ACL and they removed the scar tissue from that.

The pain that I have now is because I've been trying to do too much on it too soon, namely play softball - which is stupid and I'm going to stop playing now until it's 100%. I think all the damage was actually from catching for 3 seasons in a row - my catching days are definitely over.

5. I haven't even had a lousy x-ray
My present doctor is useless - she pokes at it and tells me "tendonitis" - so I did the PT and it didn't really help. The physical therapist wondered if I might have a torn meniscus. So I went back to the doc and she poked it again and said, "busitis." :wtf:

My pain is on the outside of the knee and it does buckle occasionally (more and more - today it went on me 3 or 4 times just in the 6 hours I worked).

So I'm seeing a new doc on Tuesday. I've heard good things about him so maybe I can get some answers. Sorry yours is still bugging - it sucks when our bodies let us down and that's just what it feels like. I've always been able to do whatever I wanted to and it's frustrating now that I can't.

9. Ask about Lidoderm
I've heard some people have good experience if the pain is on the outside (vs deep pain). It's a lidoderm patch.

Works GREAT for some people, doesn't even touch pain for others. The advantage is that it's not systemic, so you keep a clear head.

The disadvantage is that it's not systemic, so you keep a clear head.

10. Is he an orthopoedist?
I went thru hell with my shoulder going to my GP, sent me to PT, no one could figure out what it was. Went to a really good Ortho guy and within seconds he diagnosed me properly. Good doctors make all the difference.

Good Luck!!!

11. No, he's a GP
My insurance requires a referral to see an ortho but I'll keep that in mind and ask for a referral if needed. Thanks.

Hang on.... shoulder? What did you do to your shoulder?!

13. Oh, I had frozen shoulder
My right shoulder in '99 and my left shoulder in '01.

Apparently it's hereditary, my mother had it and my sister has it now. I also had arthroscopy for those and they're great now.

7. I have an unlimited prescription (within reason, of course)
I have arthritis in my back as well as the knee pain and the doc keeps me supplied with the vicodin for those times when it's real bad. I'm careful with them and don't generally take more than one in a day and almost never more than once or twice a week. But they sure are nice to have around.

"Hello, sick people and their loved ones! In the interest of saving time and avoiding a lot of boring chitchat later, I'm Doctor Gregory House; you can call me "Greg." I'm one of three doctors staffing this clinic this morning. This ray of sunshine is Doctor Lisa Cuddy. Doctor Cuddy runs this whole hospital, so unfortunately she's much too busy to deal with you. I am a board... certified diagnostician with a double specialty of infectious disease and nephrology. I am also the only doctor currently employed at this hospital who is forced to be here against his will. But not to worry, because for most of you, this job could be done by a monkey with a bottle of Motrin. Speaking of which, if you're particularly annoying, you may see me reach for this: this is Vicodin. It's mine! You can't have any! And no, I do not have a pain management problem, I have a pain problem... but who knows? Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm too stoned to tell. So, who wants me?"
