Update on kid and special education
I've had her retested and she passed w/ flying colors. The school district said that since she originally qualified for the special education program she can still be given services. She scored in the top 5 percentile on her tests and the school has found out that she can read and perform basic math(at the age of five). Now they have decided that since she originally qualified for the program she can stay in it and be given advanced work. Turns out their mistake makes her the only kid in her school who has this option.
Woohoo! She will leave class for two hours every day now and be offered opportunities in math and reading in a higher grade level. I'm so happy that something wrong for her turned into something right. My family needed one lucky break this year!

The teacher will let me in on the lesson plans for her meetings w/ my daughter so that I can stay informed.

5. That's what they did for me
when I was in Kindergarden and first grade. They would let me leave and go to 5th grade for math and 6th grade for science.

It made me a bit of a freak and a spectacle, but it was good for me.

Congrats to you and yours!

6. Thanks!
I want her to be challenged. Right now they are trying to find what level she will be working at so that they can actually start her lessons .

7. That's great!
The more help kids can get early on, the better. My son (who is 2) gets S.E. services through the school district and has PT, OT, ST, and SE therapists who come right to our home (and have since he was born.) They're very insightful and I deeply appreciate their efforts to help us see that he reaches his full potential. Even if your daughter is doing well, a little extra attention can't hurt, right? In the current atmosphere of large classes and little one-on-one contact, that's a great opportunity! Good for you!:hi:
