What supermarkets are where you live?
Me, now: Tom Thumb, H.E.B., Krogers, Albertson's, and, when in a splurging mood, Central Market.

Where I used to be: Ralph's, Lucky, VONS, Boneys, Trader Joe's.

Where I was before that: Giant, Safeway, Food Lion.

Mars, Safeway, Giant, Shopper's, Food Lion.

As of next week, I can add Trader Joe's and Wegman's to that list.

I can't wait for the Trader Joe's to open. I've heard great things about Wegman's too, but have never been inside one.

Near Belleville by any chance? My mom's from there, and we went up several years ago.

I got the biggest kick out of the name "Schnuck's." I kept calling it "Schmuck's" and making mom laugh.

I'm actually in Champaign/Urbana, but I just moved here (from Oklahoma, which is why I knew the Texas grocery chains) two months ago. Belleville is near St. Louis right?

That's in Las Vegas. Raley's was here but pulled out a year or two ago. I still wish Publix was out here. In Florida I love their varieties of frozen yogurt, especially peanut butter cup. The frozen yogurt here sucks beyond belief; too expensive, lousy bland flavors and worse taste.

27. Up here
it's Stop and Shop, Shaws, Price Chopper and the occasional Big Y.

Out in Springfield, Big Y is well, bigger than in Central Mass.

In San Gabriel Valley, it was once upon a time Luckys, Albertsons Alpha Beta, Ralphs, Vons, Safeway and Stater Bros. Then Albertsons took over both Luckys and Alpha Beta, and Safeway disappeared (don't remember who took over), and so now it's down to Albertsons, a couple of Smiths, a few scattered Pavilions (owned by Vons), Ralphs and a few smaller chains scattered around.

In Boston, years ago, there were also A&Ps, but I don't know who took them over.

115. The prices are normally pretty compettitive against Tops
and the Wally world here. We do most of our shopping at Wegman's.

Our only complaint is sometimes when they have their own line of a product they cut way down on some of the national brands. Generally though I love the store. The customer service is great.

We have a new organic one "Fresh Fields," I think is the name.

Harris Teeter is union. I like shopping there a lot.

Southern Season is our gourmet emporium. :-)

I visit all of them at one time or another for different purposes.

- HT is for regular shopping.
- Whole Foods has certain things I like: take out, exquisite chocolate bars, good meat dept.
- Food Lion is good if I need something quick on the way home, since they are nearest to my house. And their produce is very fresh.
- Southern Season is a special trip and worth it. Huge wine selection. Take out, wine tastings and cooking classes, An entire WALL of chocolate. All kinds of teas, coffees, oils and vinegars.

71. Hey (hijacking own thread) I finally had some lamb biryani. Place near
me called Chaat Cafe. They make it moderately spicy. I tried it with and without the yogurt stuff and liked it better without, even though I guess it's supposed to go with the yogurt. The stuff they used (the yogurt) was made it a bit more sour than I like.

These days I still like milder dishes like lamb koorma (sp?) the best. Funny, when I was younger, fire breathing vindaloos were my favorite. I still like those okay but am less often in the mood for them. Funny how our palates change.

I do stock-up shopping at WinCo and weekly fill-in shopping at Albertsons.

Back home, we had Cub, Rainbow, Kowalski's, IGA, Byerly's, Lunds, and a few others. I did my shopping at Cub mostly and occasionally Byerly's or Kowalski's.

I live about 22 miles from a bigger "Hannaford" There is also a "Wal Mart" there. I drive a small bit from Hannaford and I'm at the Wal Mart!!! But there is nothing else in town.

I could go farther but I'm sure you get the idea...

85. There are not that many choices here
especially when you don't shop WalMart. There is Super Target, Albertson's and Aldi's. Homeland is a union store. Then there are the hometown varieties of Reasor's, Doc's, and Warehouse Market.

We try to shop either at Target or one of the locally owned stores.

88. The coop, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Raleys, IGA, Ralph's, Safeway &
Albertsons.

The food coop is awesome but it's hard to find a parking space, TJ's is great but crowded, Whole Foods has a great selection but it's busy and expensive, Raley's in my favorite conventional grocery, IGA is kinda grubby and dated, Ralph's is expensive, dirty and thier help is rude, Safeway's okay, but not 24 hour anymore and Albertsons is a mad house and thier prices aren't that great.

103. Safeway, Aldi, Giant, Food Lion, Save-A-Lot and Costco
I do most of my shopping at Aldi and Costco. Aldi has really good prices on canned goods and frozen food items but their fresh produce is questionable and their meat tends to be tough and/or fatty. Costco has good quality meat and produce but you have to buy it in large quantities. I go to Safeway for stuff I can't get at either Aldi or Costco. Their prices tend to be high for everyday items. Giant and Food Lion are big in the Baltimore area but they aren't in my neighborhood. Shoppers Food Warehouse is another big chain in the Baltimore area. Again, it isn't in my neighborhood.

There is a Whole Foods near me but their prices are sky high so I have only been there once or twice. There are a few Trader Joe's in the Baltimore area. My mom lives near one and I often stop in when I am in the area.

117. Safeway, Albertsons, and smaller chains with several stores
Joey Franco's PW markets (similar to Albertsons & Safeway)

Lunardi's (Mid-way on the price scale between Safeway and Cosentino's. Good produce / meats / deli / etc, but they run second to Cosentino's).

Cosentino's (upscale, EXPENSIVE, but killer produce and chemical / hormone-free meats)

Whole Foods (also on the expensive side but more organic / range-free / chemical-free stuff)
