I am having bad thoughts about my neighbor cats
Ok - Loving my coffee and my early morning walk in my backyard. Such a nice break from hectic weekday grind. I so enjoy the birds and butterflies - relishing in my most favorite time of year.

THEN - the stench.

The neighbors 3 (at last count) cats/kittens have again used my flowerbed for a toilet.

I really want to put a "gift" on the drivers seat of her Lexus.

Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 08:07 AM by bleedingheart
my entire family is allergic.

However I have a very large garden and the neighborhood strays come into my garden and they kill the moles and voles for me...the moles eat my tulip bulbs. To reward the kitties...I planted catnip....in a way I am now the local feline "drug dealer"...hahahaha...

I know that a kitty has visited because the catnip will be all crushed from them rolling in it.

96. You got that right, especially outdoors! Here's a site that proves it:
http://www.matrifocus.com/LAM02/earth.htm

"My understanding then of predator and prey relationships in nature was simple and misguided. I viewed predation as a natural phenomenon. Predators hunt and kill, and prey utilize evasive maneuvers to avoid getting caught. It's natural for cats to kill and so I thought that birds and other local wildlife had built-in defenses against their predation. I couldn't have been more wrong. My reasoning was missing an extremely important variable called evolution."

2. Skunks, possums....
Most cats "cover up" their poop. I know it's tempting to blame your neighbor's cats, but it could be skunks or possums. I have four cats and I have never seen any uncovered cat poop. I have, however, seen a possum take a dump in my flowers.

4. I have no idea where you are
but try planting a ground cover. go to your local nursery and tell them the conditions and see what they suggest.
here are some things that work in the PNW:
Baby's tears
Corsican mint
Irish moss
Scottish moss
Viola
Coptis
Brass buttons
Various sedums

Not all off those work in the same conditions, but if you find something you like and it covers the ground, the critter won't beable to dig and poop in that bed. It will also suppress weed growth

I also have been known to return fecal material to the owner-the human owner. I did deposit all the dogshit I could find next to a neighbour's car door-the driver's side. Many times. With notes. and why the variety? because she needed to know what it was like to have to pick up other peoples' dogs' shit.

28. Well, Bikewriter, another way to do it...
There are plenty of places where cats are not allowed. In most apartment buildings, for example. Of course, you're not going to move because of other people's cats, you're not going to spend money on chicken wire because of other people's cats. Why don't you just put a big sign out in your yard that says: "Feline Trespassers Will Be Shot". I know, I know, cats can't read. Should cats be required to learn to read? I don't know what else will satisfy you, Bikewriter. Well, I guess we'll just have to change the world for you.

69. hey. I thought her answer to me was rude
she made some statement about being put out by the stink of cat shit. I know she didn't ASK for ideas, but I thought giving an idea to control it might be helpful. I have already decided to probably not respond to the poster again, since its seems like it's all about the complaining, and any effort on her part to help herself is not an option.

We all have to pay for shit that alleviates shit done by others. Our insurance is higher because a neighbour got into an accident. You pay more for your leathers because some assholes shoplift. If you are accused of a crime you did not commit, you must expend time, money and energy to defend yourself.

And well why should we pay taxes to pay for Bushit's heinous war? It's an unjust world.

Cats do what they do. If you don't like it, you may have to take steps to alleviate their actions. I like animals so I find the scaring of said animals or blocking their access to be more acceptable than anything else. And yes it may cost money, and no it may not be fair. But there are plenty of larger concerns over which we have NO CONTROL that don't involve the smelling of cat shit.

If you don't like the smell of catshit, I understand. If you just want to bitch about it and not do anything about it, I have the following suggestion: Belt up. I know some people won't and I have an ability to learn from my mistakes-I can hide thread when it's available.

Hey BikeWriter-you rebel you! :hi:

shit.

Same thing as human shit.

Same thing as dog shit. Same thing as trash.

If a person left their shit or trash on your doorstep or in your yard you'd not be pleased.

I don't want my neighbors cat, dog or human shit or trash in my yard. It's their responsibility to take care of it so that it doesn't become MY responsibility.

12. my neighbors put out a live small animal trap to deal with "cats".
The neighbor lady said cats were shitting in her flower beds and having keg parties at night and peeing in her bushes and the smell was so bad that she was embarrased to have friends over. I couldn't smell a thing except the neighbor lady's "ten dead hussies" perfume.

MrBill's cat's were the prime suspects. No way my cats were defecating in her yard, they all come inside and use the box. Interesting side note: healthy cat shit doesn't stink after about five minues.

I told her i would keep them out of her yard and she said that cats were stupid and couldn't learn shit.

So far after about six months she hasn't caught any cats, mine or the neighborhood strays, in her professional grade live animal trap. My cats know to stay out of an asshole's yard.

Possums aren't as smart as cats. She's caught five or six of them. The most recent one i had to call the cops because she left it in the cage without food or water for three days.

67. I own my property, that qualifies me. Feral cats kill wildlife...
and are alien to the Americas, that exempts them from my usual concern for animals. Nutria, fire ants, and alien species of birds are also on this list.

One's domesticated animals, be they cats, dogs, horses, or elephants, should be safely and responsibly contained on one's own property!

45. Give 'em hell, BW. It's damn peculiar that if your DOG goes
and digs up the neighbor's garden, you get in a bucket o' trouble.

But if it's a CAT, well, it's always excuses: "Gee, you know, you can't control cats. It's just the way they are, yacketa yacketa..."

We have lots of coyotes, eagles, foxes and other predators around here; feline leukemia is almost epidemic, and Lyme disease IS epidemic. Anyone who lets their cats wander around in this area is NOT a cat "lover."

51. Yes Sir, roaming cats get run over and die from diseases, then...
their owners snivel about how much they loved poor Fuzzy-Wuzzy. If they loved them they'd keep them inside where it's safe!

94. hear! hear!
yup, always excuses for the cats/owners ... but boy let my dog run loose, or poop in someone's yard and there's hell to pay.

If you don't want a neighborhood asshole like BikeWriter or me to claim your kitties, keep them on your own property and under your control.

26. What did your neighbor say when you complained?
Why don't you take pictures of the cats in the act to prove they are the culprits?

There are products than can safely repel cats--so I hear.

Or is this just a case of Lexus Envy?

68. A neighbor opened his door as I emptied a garbage can over his fence...
He asked, "Can I help you?" I replied, "Your dogs ate part of my trash, I picked it up and delivered it in case they get hungry later." His dogs came trotting into his open gate at the time. I never saw those two again!

102. You have several options
Cats, by their nature, wander. Even when they're spayed/neutered. That doesn't make the owners irresponsible. If you don't want cat shit in your yard go to the pet store and purchase one of several products that you can spray in your yard as a deterrent -- less than $5.00. Or ask the pet owner to pay for it. I do it for my forever-bitching next-door neighbor (with the 2 dogs that bark incessantly every time I step foot in my OWN back yard). I've also built two outside litterboxes that get cleaned at least twice a day. I've done everything humanly possible (other than take them all to the pound to have them killed -- something my neighbor, and probably you, would applaud) but cats will be cats.

People who have animals who spay/neuter them and make sure they have their shots and make sure their animals get lots of love and attention are NOT irresponsible. I have 8 cats at home and all but one are as a result of being dropped off by REAL irresponsible owners or being born to stray mother kitties in which the IRRESPONSIBLE OWNER did not get them spayed/neutered. They come into my yard looking for food and they get adopted, spayed/neutered, shots, etc. Labeling ALL cat owners who allow their cats to go outside as "irresponsible" is inaccurate to say the least.

How sad for you that you find it necessary to hate poor, defenseless animals. It says a lot about you as a (sub) human.
