Both birthparents have signed. All that's left is court formalities and an extended stay for Ms Uly and him in Columbia.

He's got some methodone withdrawal symptoms, but they're not bad - his courageous birthmother has been clean for three years and stayed at a low dosage of the methodone during the entire pregnancy. Other than that, he's perfectly healthy and happy. We just got him back to our friends' house.

74. just got back from Columbia

I don't think I've ever wanted to have to do something less than leave Ms Uly and the kid there, but they're with good friends, and it's only for a couple of days.

Sorry I've been lax in posting his name - it's Christopher John, which is what my parents almost named me.

It's magical, guys. He's definitely got some methodone withdrawal issues - he can't deal with not being held for more than 5-10 minutes, and tremors still from time to time - but between 2 and 3 this morning and again shortly before I left, he had his big eyes wide open and checking things out. I know babies don't see much clearly at four days, but I could have sworn a couple of times this morning that he was on the verge of speech. :)

So...school for a couple of days then hopefully back to SC for the first court date Friday. Back Friday pm at any rate.

I can't tell you how happy I am for you guys!!! He's a beautiful baby and I have no doubt you guys will be a loving happy family. Enjoy those baby days--they pass all too quickly (even IF you do get so tired sometimes you are hallucinating!)

I'm gonna give you the same advice my Douala gave us when we had our daughter: "I suggest that you guys make a point to leave the baby with somebody for at least an hour within the first month. I know it sounds harsh, but it is really easy to forget that they are able to live without you being in the same room with them 24/7."
