I feel like I've broken my toe
The funny thing is, I have not tripped, fallen, kicked anyone or anything (lately), accidentally stumbled into anything, or had any sort of accident that would explain this.

I DO have arthritis in my feet, but I don't think that can explain a spontaneous broken toe (I've had arthritis for a long time, and I've never heard of such a thing).

It's rather ironic, I guess. Mortally wounded by an invisible enemy, for no reason.

*sigh* It's been altogether one of those weeks. I hope I can make it through the coming one....

1. Can you bend it?
That's supposed to be the test.

2. Are you sure you haven't just bruised it?
I thought I broke my pinky once -- it really felt like it and I couldn't bend it, but when I went to the doctor, he told me it was nothing to worry about, just a bruise.

This from the same website that says that Bush is going to nominate Judge Wapner to the Supreme Court! That should be fun!

10. I think Bush is stupid enough to nominate Judge Wapner.
I guess that's the difference between you and me.

;)

4. I used to break fingers all the time playing basketball
I did it so often I knew how to fix them myself. If its broke, youll know it. Pain or numbness and swelling.

8. After successfully walking around on it all evening,
I don't think it's broken. It HAS to be arthritis.

Some days I REALLY hate my body.

11. No!!! Don't break your toe!
If it hurts that bad, you probably did break it. I'm only 39 and 2 years ago, I broke my big toe (confirmed by x-rays) That incident made me realize that I HAD broken 2 middle toes on my other foot only weeks before. (I was pretty sure those middle toes were broken; I even heard them crack,) but it wasn't till I went back to the doc for the big toe that I was sure.

Long boring storing short... my then 17 year old daughter still made me take her Christmas shopping (on the day my doc called me !!!) I had to wear a slipper on that one foot and hobble around. The worst part was that it was miserable outside... rain, sleet, snow, ect. it was really bad and my slipper was soaked.

Sorry I got side tracked. Have your doc confirm whether it's your arthritis or a broken toe. He/she will tell you what to do. If you were not an arthritis sufferer, I would suggest foot elevation and ice packs (provided it's been 36 hours since the injury.) The arthritis complicates things so you ought to see your doc. In my case he told me to use ice, elevate it, and take some tylenol.

Best of luck and I hope you heal soon!

12. It just might be gout
If the pain (once seen described as excrutiating pain) seems to center around the main joint, gout is probably the bad boy. If so, it'll go away in a few weeks.

14. It's not gout
Gout is a buildup of uric acid in the affected joint. (I have 3 sisters, all of them nurses. So I know a modicum about this and that.)

Nope, I think it's just arthritic pain- I had to miss a Remicade treatment last week due to my getting some teeth pulled- my treatment will be on this wednesday. I'm sure that will take care of what ails me!

13. Did it swell up and turn completely black?
I broke both of my pinkies over the years and that's what happened both times. Plus, wearing a shoe was out of the question. The last time I could only wear flip flops for about 2 months. Plastic beach shoes really add that touch of class to a business suit. :silly:

15. I wear clogs (real ones, not pretend) when I break a toe; their soles are
immobile and have enough room for the offended appendage.

I hate breaking toes!

16. Have arthritis in my toes, too, and have had it feel like a broken toe
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 01:13 AM by Whoa_Nelly
(have had this happen at least 4 times in the past twenty years) when it really was just joint swelling...was painful to walk, painful to touch it, and the only thing that gave me relief has been to have someone gently pull my toe so the joint eases on the pressure...that and take anti-inflammatory med.

on edit: Not saying YOU should do this...get it checked out by a doc if you think it's broken.
