What's with all the disabled profiles?
The past few weeks I have been back, there is an unspeakable amount of disabled profiles. It's mostly n00bs.

Is there a reason for this - like some kind of DU bug or are they disabling them intentionally?

1. I was just thinking the same thing!
I checked to see if we were on a "Level" but we're not.

2. Too many
"mysterious" posters around here. I want facts. I want gender, state, and hobbies. Gives me a little insight into why someone might feel the way they do about things.

3. Perhaps a new influx of
freepers who are beginning to doubt their perfect loyalty to an imperfect asshole? Perhaps they are lurking to see who the "enemy" really is? I know some freepers who linger and lurk, and I suppose that many of them are indeed beginning to grow uneasy supporting such an untalented amateur at the helm.

As Martha might say, perhaps it's "a good thing" and that some of these people might fess up over the coming months as they finally see a glimmer of light at the end of a very long tunnel into the abyss of politics. :)

Or maybe not.

5. I'd like more info, too....
I just want a little...no life stories are required...

Location, hobbies, sex, that sort of thing.....

Is it too much to ask? Apparently it is......

6. prolly because...
they don't want you to know how short of a time they've been posting. if i suspect a freep, and they don't have a profile, they go into my ignore list automatically. i clear it every so often, but the numbers that are tombstoned remind me that i have become pretty good at spotting them.

8. uh oh last time I asked that question
It turned into a huge debacle.
I was told people NEED their privacy or something ..

I like to read people's profiles. It's not like you get their street address and phone number from it.

9. Honestly? I don't care
I like the idea of posts (and posters) standing on their own. I maybe look at profiles 30 percent of the time; if I want to know something about them and am comfortable enough to ask, I will. Same w/ others; if they ask me, I'll answer.

The whole "Freeper in disguise" thing has never entered the equation for me; it's a complete, total non-issue to me.

10. I haven't noticed, but it bothers me when I see disabled profiles
That said, I wouldn't assume a disabled profile with a newbie's account points to a troll. Many freepers and other disrupters who register these days have had a bit of "how to fly under the DU radar 101" ahead of time. And are told NOT to disable their profile because it raises red flags for people.

I'm guessing a lot of people disable their profile because they are skittish about the whole registration process and concerned about how that personal information will be used. Many will enable their profile later, once they feel more comfortable as a registered member here.
