Could hot paws mean fever?

I'm concerned about my 12 year-old cat with a history of hemabartinella infection but can't find anything in my vet lit about hot pads and fever.

Anyone know if there's a connection?

1. I don't know about that, but you could take your cat's temp.

Um, you know how. The cat generally doesn't like it, so you might need other helping hands. Cats' temperatures run higher even when they're healthy, as I'm sure you know. I hope your fur friend is O.K. If you decide to go this route, I hope you are O.K. too.;-)

2. Not sure....

I grew up with dogs, and my mom always said hot paw pads and nose were signs of fever. I'd think this would be true for cats too, and it seems logical since we know that animals release heat from their paws, so if they had a fever, more heat would be released.

Makes intuitive sense since they don't sweat, now that I think about it. I heard that about noses, but this cat's nose is always dry.

Of course, if I take him to the vet they'll just do it anyway. I suppose once is better than twice...

7. if the ears are hot, she probably has a fever, so says my vet.

don't know about the paws. If she has been lying with her feet tucked under her, they would be warm anyway.

Check her ears.
