My outlook and way of living has not changed too drastically since then. I drink less and weigh more, I've got a bit of gray in my hair but I was a pretty responsible, hardworking 21 (I had 2 kids when I was 21) and I'm a pretty responsible hardworking 44. I was very socially conscious then and I have most of the same opinions now.

A smart Democrat kid. I got punched in the nose by society. I'm just about 50, and almost coming back to my senses.

Edit- Actually, I didn't give up my idealism. Just today I was talking with my mom about how I refuse to lower my expectations. I feel that we can all live together. I am now beginning to realize that it's not true. I'm just beginning to lose my idealism. I spent many years hoping and expecting. Ah. Too much for one post. I'll leave it at that.

I was full of hope and enthusiasm. I had a strong body and didn't worry so much what it looked like because I was strong and was so much more than my body anyway. I was happy most of the time and didn't worry so much. I was such an optimist because I was so naive. I was enjoying life at college, being intellectually challenged, praised by a number of people for a number of things regularly, and being surrounded by many friends. I saw my future as bright.
Now, six years later, I have severe anxiety and have developed an eating disorder. I have few friends. I have a job that I dislike because any idiot could do it and my work is not appreciated. I feel that I have done nothing worthwhile and am nothing worthwhile. My husband has also gone downhill on attitude since becoming unemployed over a year ago. I don't have much hope or enthusiasm. I see my future as bleak.
If I were myself then, I might be able to get myself out of this because I was so much stronger then, physically and mentally.

On the whole, I'd consider my 21-year-old self to be naive and sheltered but itching to break loose.
