2. my girl insists on being the only child

she is a big black cat afraid of all other cats, but adores me. and I adore her, there is no way I would ever evacuate without her. They would have to drag me out kicking and screaming. biting and clawing.

3. Three parrots

two of them are very tame, and hand raised, so they are feather impaired children. One of them is by me playing as I type, no he had no schedule. The other two are happyly in perch.

I have two CA Desert Tortoises, I keep them inside too cause I'm scared that something will get them.

I also have a dog.

29. I have the other kind of desert tortoise - The Texas Desert Tortoise

otherwise known as gopherus berlandieri. I live in California and found it walking around in my housing tract near the ocean. It must have been someone's pet as it is native to Texas and northeastern Mexico. The Texas Desert Tortoise is slightly smaller than the very large California cousin of which you have two.

I got mine three years ago from an acquaintance who died, she willed them to me. One of mine is about 50 yrs old and the other is about 35, they live along time so I will probably have to one day find someone else to inherit them from me. I thought having tortoises would be like having pet rocks but they really have personalities and are very sweet, I've really grown to love them as much as I do my dog. :-)

34. Yes, they are very sweet pets

For reptiles, they have a surprising degree of intelligence. Mine responds to my voice and comes to me asking for food (lettuce, canteloupe melon, strawberries - are its favorites). It even makes noises in its throat, kind of high pitched squeaks at times. Last year I thought mine would die when it stopped eating or moving. I took it to the vet and they said it had a giant-sized bladder stone inside its urine bladder. No vet wanted to operate because they said the stone was too large to remove (gigantic on x-ray). I took it to the best turtle expert in Southern California and he charged me $2000 for a four-hour operation to remove it very carefully. He had to cut a large hole on the underside of its shell and used a small saw to cut the stone while still inside the tortoise, before extracting it in pieces. Hopefully, your tortoises don't have that problem but it is quite common and supposedly causes them a lot of pain. The pet owner often isn't aware of the problem until it gets quite serious.

I'll have to keep an eye on mine. When I first got them they both had an upper respiratory infection and were really sick, the vet kept them for about 10 days and got them over it and built up their strength. I know that the respiratory infection is something you have to really watch out for too.

A calico and a tortie (sisters), two moody gliders (not so tame, but oh so cute!) A black and tan coonhound that jumps on me constantly. She thinks she's a teacup or something.

we got him from a friend who named him that. I personally think it's a ridiculous name for a cat, so I call him Bandit sometimes. Kitty most of the time. :rofl:

I have freshwater. Someday, I'd love to try saltwater, but I'm new to aquariums, so started easy.

And eventually, I hope some day that I can have my own house, with nice koi pond that wraps around the house.

26. We're avoiding the "wrap-around" issue here . . .

or, more truthfully, I'm avoiding it. Mr. Heidi has plans to extend the pond (only about 10 feet long x 6 feet wide x 5 feet deep) to about four times its current size, wraping it around the property to the west and sound, which will require moving the primary waste pipes under the garden. :eyes:

38. A border-collie heeler, and two rats

The rats are roof rats which I caught in a Havahart trap. The older one, Henrietta, hides in her tissue box house in a rat cage and comes out at night.
Snicklefritz is about to move into a cockatiel cage improved with a rat exercise wheel.
The dog, Sally, has hunted rats in our yard, and killed two.
