6. A friend of my wife was busted for counterfeiting
She got five dollars in a card for her birthday from her grandmother, I think, and she scanned that bill with her new color scanner, and printed out a bunch of bills with regular paper. Then she went to the movies where she paid for her ticket with two of the plainly counterfeit bills. They let her in, but fifteen minutes into the movie, the doors opened up in the theater and the ticket taker pointed her out and the cops came and arrested her. Not only did she print them on normal paper, but she hadn't even photoshoped the serial numbers or anything. They both had the same number, as well as the ones she still had in her wallet. She did some time for that one, but not too much. I think they realized she was just a dumbass.

The movie she was watching at the time? Half-Baked.

17. I once printed a picture of money
One of my customers at the time was the gas company, and they were doing a door hanger with a dollar bill as the background.

The boss saw it, freaked out, thought we were all going to be thrown in jail for counterfeiting, and made me call the Secret Service.

So I called them up and got a real nice lady on the phone. I described what the picture of money looked like (it was a foot and a half long, stretched out, the denomination was $3, the president he used was Richard Nixon, and the bill was going to be printed in blue) and she told me that so long as it's obvious that it's not really money, you can print all the pictures of money you want.
