About an hour ago I was changing the fuel filter in my car when I heard a huge screech and bang coming from Hope Mills Road. Nothing unusual, I hear lots of screeches and bangs coming from there--it is not a safe road.
I looked down the road and saw a cop car sitting there with its lights flashing. "Damn, the cops got to that one quick!"
Then I looked closer..."damn, the cops were IN that one!"
So I walked over to HM road. Turns out that a real young-looking member of Fayetteville's Finest was hauling ass down Hope Mills Road--the cops around here typically go 60 in a 45--and some guy driving a truck full of asphalt slowed down to turn down my road. Naturally, the poor cop freaked out and made a quick evasive maneuver. When he evaded, there was a van sitting in the turn lane trying to turn down my road, and the cop nailed the van so hard it turned it completely around. It fired the airbags in the cop car, wrapped the radiator around the front of the engine, folded the hood in half, and knocked at least two of the tires on the van off the rims.
Right now there's a fire engine, the crime scene investigator, two ambulances, probably a dozen patrol cars including a couple sheriff's cars and a state trooper, Sheriff Butler, the chief of police, two rollbacks, a couple of trucks from the heating & AC company who owns the van the cop flattened (one of the HVAC trucks is labeled "rapid response vehicle"), two cop motorcycles...it looks like a Police Convention down there. The only thing that's missing is a donut truck.
Hopefully this will get the cops to slow their asses down. Ain't no reason this had to happen.
