I double-sprained my left ankle bigtime about 15 years ago playing basketball with some friends...It was extremely painful and I was on crutches for six weeks...

Last summer I ran for a bus and my foot slipped off the curb and I sprained the same ankle...not as bad this time, though...

I am done running after buses, that is for sure! And yes I do try to avoid falls myself!
