6. Sister Morphine, Sir
Though it was "Kid Charlemagne" for me till encountering that one on the list. "Sister Morphine" is a more haunting piece of music, and more of an experiential piece. "Kid Charlemagne" is a trafficker's song at bottom.

7. Another Steely Dan, "Time Out of Mind"....
....also, good call on Steppenwolf's "The Pusher", which was actually written by Hoyt Axton.

8. Kicks
but does that belong on the list?
Isn't that an anti-dope song?

I used to really like "got to get you into my life" but only when I thought it was about a special person and not about a special herb. Same with "white Rabbit" ruined for me when I find that the last line is 'feed your head' rather than 'keep your head', but it turns out the doormouse never said that either. However, if the witness cannot recall what the doormouse said, it is 'off with your head' so keep works better than feed in an Alice sort of way.

I am guessing that there is a song 'snowblind' by Sabbath and this was not an error about 'snowblind' by Styx. Lucy in the Sky apparently did not make the cut either.

10. Oh, yes. Hoyt Axton lyrics again, on another great Steppenwolf song...
...he is a vastly under-appreciated songwriter. And another good call on the Little Feat's tune.

12. I had a friend in college we called Hoyt.
A guy from Texas. He was great.
And the real Hoyt was a great writer and performer.

...going through at the time, similar to what Woody Guthrie was saying with what Americans were going through during his time.

17. I guess it's now called American Roots Music.
Johnny Cash is almost cooler than he ever was in his lifetime, now. But I always heard those guys along with our 60's music heroes.

19. I think "American Roots Music" is a good term....
...That's really how it should be phrased. And it would actually give this country some cultural "roots", which right now, it sorely lacks.

20. I agree.
It rightly acknowledges the African American contributions, the Labor movement in the early part of the twenth century, Folk and protest. They are all intertwined.

18. Lou Reed: "Twenty-six dollars? ...what was I thinking?"
"You can't even get a b___job for twenty-six dollars." I seem to recall Lou saying that in one interview or another.

23. Lou just spits those classic one liners out..
I've got the "Take No Prisoners" album I just transfered to mp3; I'm going to have to play that in it's entirety one of these nights on the show. Lou is absolutely hilarious on it...

22. White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane
Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf should have made the list!

I like to dream yes, yes, right between my sound machine
On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
Any place it goes is right
Goes far, flies near, to the stars away from here

Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
You don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away

Last night I held Aladdin's lamp
And so I wished that I could stay
Before the thing could answer me
Well, someone came and took the lamp away
I looked around, a lousy candle's all I found

Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
Well, you don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away
