RANT
Why do some spammers write emails that make it seem like you know them then they put their pitch in?

1. Ugh... really. I have two others that I particularly hate:
1: People that can't take the time to ensure that their random word/name generator is actually working
2: Friggin' spam emails that tell me to "Get a capable HTML email client" -- well thank you very much, but I have HTML turned off for a reason, idiot!

But, it was better than being here if the thing had hit.

Edited to add: Can you jump on AIM?

5. Similar pet peeve: I work in HR, so get lots of calls from prospective
hires. I HATE it when people call up and 'greet' me with: "Hey, (name) how you doin'?" as though we are best buddies. And I hate to sound discriminatory, but it is ALWAYS the immigrant applicants that do this, and not just men...women from other countries will call me "sweetie" and really be sucking up... maybe it's a cultural thing with them, but I get pretty short with them, sorry to say. When someone calls me up and fails to identify him/herself, my first question, in a pretty frosty tone, is "Who is calling? And what is your purpose in calling?" I think many of them are getting some really bad advice in job-seeking...I have had people call/stop in two and three times a week, wondering why they have not been interviewed/been made an offer yet.
Really bugs me that I feel this way, because I do NOT want to discriminate in hiring, and I have hired many many men and women from several countries, but it really turns me off.
Sorry, didn't mean to totally hijack YOUR rant! I share your digust with the tactic in e-mail too!

It makes me uncomfortable.
