What was the ORIGINAL ending of "The Butterfly Effect?" (SPOILER)
SPOILER ALERT!!

I watched it on cable recently (what a feel-good evening with my sweetie that was), and saw....well, apparently it was the director's cut, which involved a twist ending with our hero about to be born that turned into an anti-"It's A Wonderful Life." (By his never being born, everyone he would've known wound up being a lot happier.) What a perverse viewpoint.

Does anyone know or remember what the other ending was, and was it any better? I'm just curious for my own peace of mind.

1. The other ending... as I recall it...
Is that he insults his girlfriend when he first meets her when she's a little girl... she moves to another town, and they never see eachother again, until they happen to cross paths on a sidewalk in Manhattan. They both walk away in different directions after a glance at eachother.

5. you are correct
both endings are on the dvd by the way

i feel the ending where he figures out a way for both of them to survive by insulting the little girl is the better ending, bittersweet, but understated

the other ending is slightly pro-suicide, the old "you would all be better off if i had never been born" idea that you often hear from people who threaten suicide or who have attempted it, it brought back rather sad memories for me

worth seeing either way if you like alternate universe stories, which i do

3. Oh I dunno
I've always felt there are certain people who should have never been born...
