OK, kind of freakin' out. A strange man entered my backyard.

Now, I should say that I live in an apt complex, but it's unusual in the fact we have pretty decent sized yards on the first level.

My back entrance is private. Someone just entered and walked about half way to my door, then turned and left.

Now, my good sense says he was looking for another entrance and got confused. It's happened before. After a few minutes, I let my mean looking boxer out to check the yard. He barked and growled and did a perimeter check then came back in.

But now, he is sitting at my door and growling more than I've ever heard him before.

What in the hell should I do? I have some friends in the complex a few buildings over. Should I ask them to drive by and check it out?

I walked out after he had a chance to run the perimeter and didn't see anyone, but he won't stop growling. I'm going to let him out as soon as I finish this post!

and she did a check from her deck. You can see from this pic that she can see right down in my yard. Plus, I let the dog out several times now. I think the dude is gone.

I have a fence all around my yard and I always keep it locked.

My dog is a shepherd mix, mostly german shepherd in looks and she lets me know what is going on.

Love your dog's name, he does look the part.

10. UPDATE: I ran out and locked my back gate.

This place is on lockdown right now.

My boxer and I are curled up and they don't want any of him - his bite is as bad or worse than his bark.

I'm thinking of calling them. I just hate to be a hassle if it was just someone walking in the wrong gate. It's happened 2-3 times in the almost 4 yrs I've been here.

I just got freaked for a bit because I live alone and it caught me off guard. But I feel confident that Senator Boxer is patrolling the back. He is cute and cuddly, but damn proud and serious to be the guard dog as well. It's in his DNA.

I wouldn't mess around your place with that dog, but you should call the police and let them know what is going on.

Tomorrow you might want to go to the neighbors that are in law enforcement and tell them about the guy and ask them if you can have their home and/or cell phone numbers should he come back. It never hurts to make friends with neighbors, especially neighbors that are cops.

20. I've had two such incidences occur, and both freaked me out

Once, I went out front of my house to smoke a cigarette, and there was a guy in a red Jeep Cherokee parked out front of my house (about 30 yards from the front door). It was a city street, and it was dark, so I thought that maybe someone just parked there, and started smoking. Well, the guy rolled down his window and started talking to me. It was a Middle Eastern man, and he was totally hitting on me -- and being really creepy about it, and asked if he could come in. I was like, uh, "no way, dude -- are you crazy?" And then, he said, "Well, I'll just come back in the daytime," and drove off. I called the cops, and put my neighbors on alert. Thing was, my neighbor and his friend Floyd were so drunk, they thought that a neighbor kid, who had some friends parked outside of his house in some other SUV, was the offender, and they threatened to start a fight with them, and then the cops really DID end up coming, and it was a bad scene. ANYWAY, the cops told me if I saw the guy, again, to call.

I never did, until one night I happened to look outside my window, and saw a red cherokee just pulling away from right in front of my house. Creeped me out, but I was moving.

Second time was here, in Iowa -- when I lived in an apartment complex. I was smoking, again, outside my front door, at about 2 a.m., when this guy in a very loud, very slow moving pick-up started coming up the hill, and was just about to round the corner to my house. I, again, didn't think anything of it, until the guy got right by my house and looked over at me, and gave me the MOST EVIL LOOK I'VE EVER SEEN. It was like a sneer-smile, with the "I'm-gonna-get-you" eyes. And I could HEAR him, every night, after that, driving by, ONE time. I didn't call the cops, though, because I was afraid I'd look like an idiot saying "this guy gave me a creepy look."

Anyway -- trust your instincts. And your dog. I'm glad you've locked your gate, and you have your fearsome friend, but keep an eye out. It probably is a misunderstanding, but it can never hurt to be alert.
